So, I was looking at the PMC threads and this one in particular:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/192739-pmc-clones.html
And was thinking that reproducing the cabinet design for the Twenty 20 series would be relatively easy but the question I have is how would I go about finding the best driver and cross over match for the cabinet? I'd be working on a Twenty 24 clone and given that used Twenty 24's go for around £1100-1200 I'd be trying to work to a budget of around £700 for drivers and crossovers (cabinets would be FOC as we have a carpenter in the family).
Also, I know absolutely zilch about crossover design so designing/making them myself isnt really an option so preassembled kit would be much preferable, either off the shelf or custom built.
Thanks for reading

I too am keen on PMC's, and 'clones' of there speakers.
I'm great at crossover design and have methods to tune transmission lines but dont have access to a workshop so need a cabinet maker.
Maybe an exchange of services?
Also, I have a set of IB1 clones that are 'work in progress' sitting in a cupboard if you'd be interested.
Where are you based?

Cloning a speaker is a bit silly really. What you CAN do is look for something similar in a well-thought out design.
So your PMC Twenty-24 looks like 6" paper bass and 1" SEAS tweeter. Now Troels does a rather good looking variation on that, with time-alignment via a stepped rather than sloped baffle:
18W-8434G00
OK, reflex rather than transmission line. I'm not sure it matters much. V3 with the ring radiator tweeter is the one he really likes. Jantzen Audio kits are quite reasonably priced for ALL the bits!
Otherwise have a delve at these:

I see where you're coming from but is coping the design of PMC really any different to recreating any of the designs you've linked to?
That said, I have been looking at this kit
https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...a-2-way-klang-ton-kit-pair-using-illuminator/
I really like the idea of a two way stand mounter using top class drivers. I'd love three way but the room isnt really suitable.

Personally I think reverse-engineering a speaker and building it is a lot more fulfilling and interesting than building somebodies kit.
I'm based in the UK.
Did you want to work on something?

Can't say I agree, I love PMC speakers and have a lot of respect for them.
Some of the monitors they came up with are very clever, and you only begin to realize why they sound so good when you reverse-engineer them.
Also, why would you make a random-joes' DIY design if you find a pro design you can reverse engineer... makes no sense to me.
The old PMC 2-ways used SB acoustics mid-woofers and Seas tweeters. By moving the crossover out of the cabinet you improve the transmission line, spread out the inductors properly, switch to all air-cored inductors, stop using electrolytics and use a decent high end set of caps on the tweeter. the result is simply a better speaker at lower cost, providing you don't charge yourself for the time developing it.... for me that's the point of DIY.
If I wasn't building speakers I'd be running PMC's, but as an engineer the crossovers make me want to vomit... hence, I love PMC clones.

I understand the want to clone a speakers, however I think this is backwards thinking. Just becasue one likes a t-line (and i do), doesn't mean its the best solution in all occasions, and the truth is that you could be limiting the abiality of your chosen drivers.
I'm not a fan of many so-called high end brands, and PMC does little for me.
