Just been exploring the world of Devialet Phantom and Silver Phantom which 'everyone' is talking about. I searched here but no ones talking about on the forum.......yet.
Anyone heard them?

Some interesting technologies crammed into these speakers...no!

I visited their site once and now am spammed constantly. French name must be good. IMHO Dyson meets Bose don't kid yourself these guys follow whatever BS works.

I've heard them a number of times, they can play really loud which is not intuitive when you look at them. IMHO they are kind of cool looking in an odd sort of way and seem well suited to home theater applications.

I listen to bi-radial horns on Onken boxes with SE tube power amplification at home, and I found them tolerable for short term listening. Not really my cup of tea otherwise.

I don't suppose they were ever designed to be critically compared with high end audiophile systems the like of which will be present in the listening rooms of those on this forum, but they do tick a number of boxes with regards to modern design ideals. It's an impressive package in my eyes and I should imagine that if set up correctly as a stereo pair they would be hard to beat considering their size and convenience.
I'll have to go a long way to hear them so will probably not get the chance where I live.

Well they plan to sell it in Apple Stores. The design is not bad although I find the shiny white a little bling bling (could be nicer in mat white imho)

I heard them in their SHowroom of Paris and I assume you can find one in London ?!

The highs are a little dry for my tastes but I found they image well ! But it's a showroom where all is made to sound better... They have even a more high end speaker line with bass box and a more classic cabinet !

The good thing is the bass comming from a lateral push-push, you can putt those sphere at he middle of the height of your room !

You may want to listen some LS50 from Kef before to have a point of reference in relation to the price ! The Phantom being DSPed, you have also an easier integration maybe ! I will not buy this for a main Hifi, but for a non headache second system plug&play (for a shop, desk, etc...); I believe it's not so expensive due to the good quality construction : made & quality controlled in France ! The cabinet construction is sota !
If more money I will go for the system speaker Bruno Putzey is selling !

lol

I found this ad copy on a site whilst checking the UK prices
Devialet Silver Phantom

Devialet Silver Phantom - 3000 Watts - 105 DB SPL
1.000 TIMES SUPERIOR
Phantom on its own will replace your stereo systems, speakers, docking stations and home-cinema. It exceeds them at least 1.000 times in terms of sound quality, thanks to several extraordinary engineering inventions, among which the ADH Intelligence and the Heart Bass Implosion. Exclusive to and created by Devialet’s acoustical engineering.

Assuming they mean 10^3 not 10^0 that's a fairly major alarm bells claim, even before the 'cybernetic intelligence'. But they will sell like <insert fast selling product> I am sure. The ad copy reminds me of the carver sunfire sub.

Does still look like a scaled up sex toy tho.

A few, what could be taken as, cynical, comments about these speakers; but I wonder how they would be received in a blind audition?!
Don't forget, they are meant for the iPad/iPod/smart phone/internet generation who have limited exposure to the fine art of more conventional audiophile sound systems. There is a new world out there with regard to how people listen to music so I'm sure that these speakers will be seen as very desirable to those who can justify the outlay.
I'm actually impressed by these, without hearing them, as they do seem to attempt to employ design criteria that would individually be accepted as good practice. For instance: force cancelling of the bass drivers; coaxial mid/tweeter; spherical baffle.........give them some credit!

They're giving themselves enough credit, and I find the design abhorrent anyway. Certainly some design by ticking boxes; boxes that were themselves defined by what the market wants, which is just another way to say what marketers want their market to want. Good design lies in the 'how', not the 'what'.

Nope, sorry. There's very little to redeem them; especially after all the trade hype.
