Hypex Nilia vs NCX500 vs PURIFI Eigentakt Opinions?

I agree. There's 3 preamps, 4 DACs, two front ends, and endless cables.
I plan on experimenting enough that we get a good idea of what each amplifier does in systems.
I have 7 pairs of fine speakers to swap out as well. We're really wanting to just have a fun day of trying the best (supposedly) newer amp technologies against a reference amplifier.
Personally? I'm really praying for the Nilai to do well, or preferably win. I want to downsize.

...
So now I'm open to advice from you.... I plan on using Nilai monoblocks for the comparison, but what would you suggest me purchasing, exactly? I want to allow the Nilai to perform as well as the amps can. If they compete evenly, I'm keeping them!
...

There are a few options to consider. If you're set on Hypex Nilai, VTV (USA) offers both DIY and assembled monoblock and stereo versions. There is only one Nilai module at present (Niliai500DIY), which gives a bit more power than the BEL 1001: VTV Hypex Nilai Options. Buckeye Amps is another reputable constructor, although I don't see them having listed the Nilai modules at this time.

What I might suggest as an alternative is the Purifi Eigentakt 1ET400A, elevated with VTV's optional and excellent Sparkos Labs SS2590 discrete input buffer. This is the first listing on the VTV Purifi page: Purifi 1ET400A Monoblock. I am planning to go this same route using the larger 1ET9040 modules. There is also a version of this amp listed directly below with Sparkos vacuum tube buffer for which I have seen excellent reviews, albeit at a higher price. Basically, VTV will put together anything you want, so if you're looking to evaluate amp(s) you intend to keep if you like them, consulting VTV for an experienced opinion might be a good place to start.

Hi Ted. We already tested the Purifi monoblocks, and while I don't remember the buffer choice on them, we preferred the BELs significantly.

These bespoke buffers were developed to shape the overall character of the amp to address what some dislike about class D amps, and this they appear to accomplish to a reasonable extent. If this is sufficient to suit your particular tastes I have no way to know. I suggest getting in touch with Warren at VTV and having a chat. Others say he is very helpful, and these are his amps.

Good point!
But it means something to me... it means most decent Class AB amplifiers I have heard in my 42 years in the business, have a better sound quality to MY ears than any Class D amplifiers I have heard.
And especially not even close to BEL amplifiers.

Than what are you doing here asking for opinions? You are clearly of the belief that amps have a "sound", and even further, are of the opinion that you can not only hear these differences but have a personal preference. Quit wasting people's time here and buy what you have already determined to satisfy your old ears.

Back to the thread topic ... I'm slightly confused about the Purifi suggestions.
Reading tests, and watching videos of Class D shootouts, pretty much all of the reviewers say the Nilai breaks the "overly stark" nature of Class D, with a touch more body.
I mean everyone ... I'd love to hear differently before buying amps for the test.

Noteworthy in these videos however, such as the Alpha Audio review for example, they are using the manufacturers' supplied input sections. The reason I specifically suggested contacting VTV is their custom tube and discrete solid state input buffer options contour the sound in ways that you would almost certainly appreciate, these being available for both Nilai and Eigentakt amplifiers. You might find this video review helpful: Class D with Tube Buffer

Or you could just get any old amp and use dsp to add whatever flavor of distortion you prefer. Why use something designed to produce inaudible distortion only to add it willy nilly with a tube buffer? DSP can tailor the sound to one's liking for those who like that sweet sound.
