MarkAudio MA200-M + DDVP-20(TQWT)

MA200-M was broken in for 10 hours before being measured and air-recorded.
MA200-M is a driver that combines the powerful sound of the W8-1772 with the silky sound of the MAOP10.

Can you give us a impression of the sound from MA200?

What surprised me the most was the way the sound spread over a vast space.
The three-dimensional sound field is No. 1 among MarkAudio drivers.
It combines sufficient power and subtlety in all bandwidths, and has a large scale and good localization.
I feel that the die-cast frame has had a positive effect on the sound.
It seems that I don't have to worry about deformation due to over-tightening of the screws.

However, the directivity of the treble is not as good as I would like, and when listening from a distance, I am concerned about the drop in treble. Is this a luxury concern?

I recommend this product especially to those who think MAOP is too expensive and unaffordable.

Hi juanitox,

This kind of graph is normal for indoor non-smoothing measurements.
Rather, this graph is flat.
I'm not convinced that this dip (which is also shown on the manufacturer's datasheet) can be dismissed quite so easily. Dips of this magnitiude are by no means universal. When I asked about it before, @Scottmoose suggested it is where the MA200 transitions out of pistonic operation.

Of the MA videos I've listened to, this is the 1st that appeals to me, but the price I saw recently?! Don't know I could justify it since I can tweak cheaper drivers to at least as good, if not better overall. Would need an audition of something I'm really familiar such as The Legendary Profile.

Hi GM,

Thank you for your previous request for Legendary Profile / MJQ.

[Air-Recording] SB Acoustics SB10PGC21-4

Newly air-recorded with MA200-M.
The sound source is YouTube introduced by GM.
The low end of this sound source stops at 60Hz, so the MA200-M may not be able to show its full potential.
I think 3” SB Acoustics SB10PGC21-4 would sound better.

Thanks!

While the music @ YT falls well short of the vinyl in 'you are there'/SQ, it's a 'devil' I know well and of these two I'd need a dedicated mid-bass driver for both below wherever in the BW the vibes start and for the rest, prefer the MA overall with maybe some tweaking around/at the surround (maybe ditto at the DC too as they tend to go 'hand in hand', but hearing too far gone to tell :sigh: ). Maybe all those added tedious dots 'n dashes have some merit after all.

You're welcome! Thanks for the effort! 👍

Hmm, I just assumed the others were with tubes also, so probably would sound as fine as these two do once past the bass.

Regardless, once again proof that tubes, speakers in general and especially 'FR drivers, have a certain synergy as it tones down the sharp 'edge'/'clinical' reproduction of SS amps and why I personally preload them with a rheostat to dial them in and replace with a power resistor or grid if not a stock rating.
