I got the little 2.1 amp that I'm intending to use, and gave it a test using a DIY sub I have in the house (two 4Ohm Peerless XLS10 drivers wired in series, in a ~40L cabinet).
The amp will take DC power between 12V and 24V, but the supply I had to hand was 19.5V, rated at 6.7A. The spec sheet claims 24W into an 8Ohm load for 19V.
That test has allayed any worries about power; even the above configuration was more than enough to add clean bass at a pleasant listening level for music (all I'm trying to achieve with this setup). I don't expect it to pump nightclub levels of bass in a large room.
With that sorted, I started to model some of the suggested drivers in an ancient version of BassBox Pro, and I'm liking the look of Waxx's suggested SB Acoustics SB34NRX75-6.
Madisound suggest a ~73L closed box, or ~113L vented. The vented response looks particularly nice, so I'll continue investigating that path.
