16mm movie projectors for modding?

Ahh, well how about use of the light? Some of them are 3600 lumen. If you change out the lens. Back in my school days I remember the real to real could toss a image pretty far. Just to make sure we are on the right page, im talking a 16mm film projector not a slide.

i think the guts could be used, not sure what kind of bulb those projectors have... i remember those from school too. our driving instructor showed us "Highways of Blood" or something suitably named to scare new drivers.

If you are asking about the projector's use because you have one, then have a look at the bulb, i'm guessing it's an incandescant, maybe 1000watts? The first problem I see is the heat of the bulb potentially ruining the lcd. They were designed to do film, which obviously is thinner and weaker than a LCD panel. However, the film doesn't have enough time to heat up, it's in front of the bulb for 1/24th of a second. Didn't the old school projector ever get stuck feeding film and maybe you saw the "melting film" phenom.

Anyway, if you don't have a projector but like the vintage/retro look, consider this; medium format projectors (LCD size 4x5 inches) are relatively cheap. There's one on eBay right now selling for $9.40. This would provide the optics for a 5inch LCD which you can get from a PSOneLCD kit or many other places.

*(btw- i've already started on my vintage/retro 5" projector using a medium format projector)*
