Hi everybody
My question... Are there any 2SC5242/2SA1962 fakes going around ?
Just asking because I just got a pair of them to repair my Marantz amplifier and they look dodgy, no brand on them and the case of the 2SA is slightly diferent from the original one.
The other thing is that they have exactly the same date code (PMC1120k7)...
Any one of you guys know something about this ?
Regards
Ric

Thanks, but my question was/is:
Are there any know fakes of the 2SC5242/2SA1962 around ?
Ric
The answer is:Yes.

You can get 2STC5242 and 2STA1962 from ST Microelectronics. I assume they are clones (not "fake clones", but "good clones") of the aforementioned parts. Very, very cheap and good quality.
According to the Tosh and STM datasheets the STM device performs better.
Higher soa @60Vce 70W vs 150W
Lower Cob 200pF vs 150pF

Thanks to all.
It is so much easier getting a trait answer to our questions, I never sayed I got them from ebay/online from china/Hong Kong etc.
Got them from a known supplier (online) and were advertised as Toshiba ones.
Second time around got them as Toshiba and they turn out to be from ISC.
Going to compare them with the original Toshiba ones I have and see whats comes out.

What known supplier is that? If there is no Toshiba logo on them, then they can be assumed to not be from Toshiba. 🙂
I would not trust an ISC part. They use the same datasheet for many of its "similar" transistors, which makes me assume they use the same die for every part, and just re-brand then to every possible part name out there, to get more hits. Not honest, not reliable. And the part quality is most likely terrible as well.
