Accoutning for AC synchronous motor frequency

Thank you for this! I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of AC motors is scant. I appreciate the explanation.

I know from discussing on another forum the 1/2" and 1" capstan sleeves for this deck and the 240V motors in it are only to differentiate between the two tape speed modes: (1 7/8, 3 3/4, and 7 1/2IPS or 3 3/4, 7 1/2, 15IPS). The 1/2" sleeve for the former, the 1" the latter.

I am merely guessing that they provided either a different set of motors for an American export version or else another set of capstan sleeves for the 240V motors to compensate? (I hope that makes sense)

Either way I have the 1/2" sleeve for the 240V motors and I don't believe I'll find information about the sleeve dimensions for this ancient unit! I also use a very robust 1:2 step up for all the Euro gear I run here.

I was looking earlier, but I don't have appear to have any pictures of the sleeve from when I tore the unit down. It was pretty buggered, and I spent a few days stripping down the mechanical bits, relubing and oiling and reassembling. I had to replace the cork on the brake arms and still need to break-in and readjust them.
