Altec 1005B horn plans

Do any of ya'll know where I can find some plans for an altec 1005b horn? Or any altec multicell horn?

Hi Pain, I actually found that thread and sent Petter an email. I'm thinking I might try and make one with a conical design first for the sake of simplicity.

Sure Nick, let me know if you need any info. I think making them out of thick card or matteboard might be easiest, then coat the walls with wax or something if needed.

EDIT: 6.25x6 inches each. About 17" back to where they join together. Then the throat behind that.

I was going to use 1/4" plywood to start.

Didn't even know there was 1/8 plywood. Not really much there for a miter joint.

Where the cells join together is very important. You'll have a hard time with anything as thick as 1/4". 1/8" can be found at Lowes or Home Depot.

I noticed in the other multicell horn how he sanded them down at the ends.

The first time I build these will basically be a practice run for assemble. So I'll find out what works and what doesn't. That's why I'm just doing conical instead of exponential.

We will see how it goes.

Cool. I suggest matte board or similar. Easy to work with, stiff and thin. I'll bet you that a square horn is going to be easier than conical. I wanted to do hexagonal (honey comb), but never tried.

I meant straight sides, no curve to it. I thought that's what a conical horn was.

OK, got you. I think of conical as round, but you mean just straight sides with a square mouth. Yeah, that should be pretty easy.

Hello, I know this is an old thread but I am going to pull on it anyway. I am looking at building my own copy of the 1005B Altec horn, You mentioned that you had one. I would LOVE to get some dimensional information from you on those if you still have them.

Hey Steve. Alas my 1005 are long gone. Gone to Hong Kong, IIRC. The basic dimensions are published, it should not be hard to work out a copy from that.
