Altec 1570B Interest

I picked up an Altec 1570B last week. As much as I would love to mod this (and find another), I don't see it happening in the near future. So I thought I would put out some feelers.

It is very clean and unmolested. There is some dust and surface dirt, but inside the base the whole layout is clean, with no signs of overheating or failure. No one has messed about with it. Original caps, original everything.

I have not run any power into this yet, my variac is on loan, and I won't see it for a week or two.

So I am basically curious as to if anyone has any interest. I see a few on Ebyay but am not in any hurry to sell through them. I am in PA and would prefer meeting someone than shipping this 75 lb. beast.

You are correct, Mello4. A big monoblock power amp from the early 60s, used in theaters and stadiums. There is/was a solid group of enthusiasts for these, as they run very clean, and can be modded to very high fidelity. Lots of info here on diyAudio and some really cool videos on youtube. If I had another one, I would be tempted to get on it myself. As it is, I am hoping someone who loves these might be in search of one.

I purchased a pair of NOS 1570B's still sealed in original boxes over thirty years ago. They sounded terrific on their own, but, for a couple of years, I used them to drive a home-brew 300B SE amp which, in turn, drove a pair of ProAc Response 2 speakers. Without a doubt, that combination delivered some of the best sound I have heard in fifty years of HiFi listening -Edward

In around 1976, my housemate acquired a pair of Altec Lansing professional audio speakers. Each cabinet had a pair of 12" or 15" speakers and a 811 horn. Those speakers were very efficient & sounded pretty good with Rock music. He eventually sold those speakers and bought a pair of Vandersteens

The 1570B would be my first choice if I still ran low efficiency speakers with a powered subwoofer.

I have worked on a few of the 1570B amplifiers that are still in use somewhere.
I just remember my fathers face when he saw them on my bench. They were just an object of lust from his time.
