Ambient noise floor due to insects

We must have different grasshoppers. Music won't drown out a grasshopper that has gotten into the house at ten feet away.

Last time I wanted to measure a speaker it was fireworks season. Had to hope noting went off during a test.

As far as cicadas go I used to live somewhere where it always seemed to be the right season. The fun part was having a cat that would bring them inside in her mouth with them still alive and making the noise.

The loudest sounds made by living beings over here are probably human children screaming like crazy. They don't do that continuously, fortunately.

Human children produce a calibrated audio output in supermarkets on Saturdays.
They produce precisely one DWF of audio.
Think of the press and there volume in swimming pools and area in football pitches.
See if you can work out what DWF means.

Child's play.
Try testing speakers outside or with windows open at some Greater Buenos Aires locations, when scrap metal buyers and "fresh farm eggs" sellers start their workdays 😫

We are going to get hit hard in NE Tennessee. They love Locust trees. They are so loud I can't go outside when they are at peak noise. If I am still here (trying to buy a house and move) when they emerge I will try to get some readings.

Yesterday afternoon I measured 90.7 dBA in my back yard, under the trees. The noise floor in my house has risen from 38 dBA to 57 dBA. Fortunately they go silent when the sun goes down.
