if you go inuke (with dsp) for the tops, you could also look at a behringer graphic equalizer:

It has a separate subwoofer output with tunable crossover frequency. You could run the signal from your mixer to the eq, sub amp on the sub output, top amp on the normal outputs, and do all neccesary filtering between mid/high with the dsp inside the inuke.
added bonus: you can fiddle with the graphic eq which is faster and more intuitive than parametric eq inside a dcx for example. It could be a good learning experience.
EDIT: bear in mind of course the graphic eq is less precise than a fully parametric one, but nonetheless very useful
