There's also tecron which was a division of crown. There amps are rated to dc.
They are pretty much the same amplifiers - they just take out the AC coupling from the signal path and feedback.
Used Crown MA2400s seem to be going for around $600, including shipping on eBay. A few are even closer to $700. You can find a few that look beat-up for closer to $500.
Do they hold up? Do the capacitors go bad so they develop hum? I hate to buy one to discover it needs over $100 worth of work at a repair shop.

Old Crowns hold up well, many are reluctant to retire them because they keep going. The capacitors can last a long time before drying up or failing. I (relatively) recently traded a Crown PSA 2, which could have been from as early as 1979, it had no hum problems. I have seen 40 year old Crown DC series amps (which put out full power down to DC) still in use with no repairs.Used Crown MA2400s seem to be going for around $600, including shipping on eBay. That said, when problems do occur, $100 worth of work at a repair shop won't get you very far, though the older amps were built so that repairs (rather than replacement) is possible.

Thanks for the information. I'll start looking for a good deal when I have some money available.
Yep. $100 will probably barely cover the diagnostic fee.
