Anybody used KEF Ci160QR or Ci130QR?

Historically, I've liked KEF speakers, and have several. I'd like to upgrade my current Reference 101 with something that is a little more modern. Yes, I have subs, so anything below 100Hz is covered.

KEF doesn't provide much in the way of useful information (really, none) for these, so I'm wondering if anybody has played with them enough to get a feel for cabinet size and what they'll sound like. At $250 each, I'm not going to go ahead blind...

Without knowing the frequency response and other details, it's hard to say how well they will work. For a while, the Q100s were available separately from the cabinets. If I were you, I'd just buy the Q100s and update the crossover. I bought the Q100s for my dad and they're well built.

I personally use them in a corner expanding array system.

You can see details of the cab I built here:

They look like they would work, but. .. Reflex cabinet. Personally, I prefer sealed, and I want to build something.....

Guess I'll have to go hear them. Thanks!

The Q100s have far more potential than all of the similarly-priced* in-walls. The drive unit is excellent, the cabinet crap, and the crossover simplistic but adequate. So buy a pair, throw away the cabs, design your own crossover, and there's a potentially excellent DIY speaker.

Better yet, use it in a three way, perhaps with a powered bass driver. Something like the old Soundfield Audio Monitor 1's.

*The new 8" one looks like it has a similar driver to the Q900, and might be worth a look if you're willing to spend more.

My current system includes 4 10" subs, crossed over at 100, 24db/oct and well powered. I don't think I'll change that. They're run in stereo, so I could extend higher. WAF will govern 5" or larger.... Pictures of the room: Realize 4th picture down the page. You can just see the 101s on the wall, and the woofers are in the columns.
