I am building up a turntable based on Rega mechanicals and an Audio Technica AT1005 II arm. I am keeping build costs down as much as possible and was going to fit an AT95E cartridge for the time being based on the fact that this would probably be a reasonable match for the medium mass AT arm. However, there are a few AT110E's still for sale and I wondered if this would be a better cartridge for a few quid more?
Despite some hype around the '95, I found the '110 to be better in every way. Other people's 'exciting' sound from the '95 just sounded crude and coloured to me. I've used both and used to sell cartridges, tonearms, etc in a past life. Naturally YMMV. Probably out of budget, especially now exchange rates have kicked up the price in the UK, but I recently set up a Denon DL110 on a friend's Systemdek. Even better than I remember them being and a total bargain. It's a high output MC, so it's fine into MM phono inputs. Over at the Vinyl Engine forum a lot of Rega owners are using these. Never did like Regas much until they stopped the motors wobbling about, but the latest ones seem good.
