B1 but with some gain...

Here is my sim of JFET BOZ B1 Buffer.
R9 should be chosen to set current ~ 0.5mA.
R10 should be chosen to give 5 to 6mA.

Others have already mentioned using iron.

I built a DCB1 based preamp and found myself in the same situation of needing some gain a few years back…just when ZM got his KISS thread rolling.

He helped me add some Jensen iron at the output of the DCB1. It was easy, worked like a charm and the results were fantastic.

So good in fact that I put off building another preamp and focused on other things for several years now.

Sort of a “What’s your favorite flavor” question…there’s Cinemag as well obviously…they all do the job well.

I was able to get the Jensen JT-123-FLPCH cheap and fast off eBay so I grabbed a few pairs and didn’t look back…besides, if they’re good enough for Pa they’re good enough for me.

6L6 or someone else made some subjective observations about differences between the three and posted them…been quoted in several threads including the KISS one.

You might have to wait for Cinemags now as there’s a bit more demand because of the Iron Pre and other projects…but they’re great to do business with and make a quality product.

I was just watching a couple of the old Buring Amp vidios. In one of them Nelson had
a tared up B1 with a Cinamag transformer right in the middle of the circute board.
Using that transformer you could select either 6 or 12 db gain. I believe he made the
comment that he considered using a Jensen tansformer but the Cinamag worked just
a little beter and as an bonus it was about $5 cheaper. Sorry I don't recall which vidio
this was in or what Cinimax transformer was used.
