Behringer DCX2496 versus DCX2496LE

Starting this thread because I almost made an expensive mistake in buying a DCX2496LE when I really needed a DCX2496. I hope others will add to my first post esp about internal components and with corrections.

Looking at the manual does not clear up all confusions - takes a note to Behringer support.

There are three models: old model going back maybe 20 yrs ( have one... just wonderful, can't praise it enough), newer model omitting the front PCMIA slot, and three year old LE model (which might alone have gold plated connections and better innards).

The LE model seems like the "newer" model with the following further omissions.

1. no coax AES (AKA S/PDIF) input using jack Input A. So you can't be end-to-end digital by going digital from your computer right into the heart of the DCX2496LE. If your music can come from a USB port, you do not want the LE because that inserts two extra converters into the chain.*

2. no Input C. In addition to adding a third analog input, this input offered a mic pre-amp and phantom power. So you can't use the trick direct-mic'ing EQ app.

3. the mysterious RS232 jacks are gone. So you can't connect to a computer (Window, sadly) or daisy-chain the units.

For many people, the analog-in and analog-out LE model is just right and $50 cheaper (although rare second-hand). But if your source is digital or a third input jack is needed, then a second-hand DCX2496 for the same price as a new DCX2496LE is wiser.

*I use an inexpensive box named "Breeze" which converts USB to S/PDIF and goes direct into Input A of my old DCX2496

Another thread for crying out loud?? 🙂

Every possible question regarding the DCX2496 and its various iterations (and modifications) has been asked/answered multiple times in the original thread from 2003.
