Hi all
Long time that I don't post/interact here on this forum.
Basically, after I found my dream duo, Beyma 12P80nd/TPL150, i lost interest in DIY, and just so in trying out new stuff.
Thats about 8,9 years by now.
Wondering: Since then, has there be launched any AMT mid-tweeter that tops the Beyma TPL-150 in terms of performance, in special low distortion, and naturalness/neutralness/transparency?

I have used the TPL 150 and love it, the TPL 200 is even better though.
Well worth hearing a pair if you can.

I would say the most expensive, lol... some Mundorf !
Have you tried the Stage Accompany something ? Famous clone of a Philips ribbon : plenty of sensivity but doesn(t go low like the Beyma AMT ! While I remember you cutted of your Beyma very low as Beyma advised with these two drivers 2 Ways Kit..
Maybe your next will be a Ribbon instead or even a cheaper AMT than the Beyma ?
Viawave seems to make good Ribbon with sensivity enough.
Sorry can't help more. You should say what cutt off you need and minimum sensivity

18 Sound has a new driver that looks similar to the TPL series. Doesn't look like it can cross any lower, but maybe better controlled resonance and distortion down low?

Hi Angelo
I'm thinking a system like that. Would you tell about other speakers (sub?) present in the sytem, crossover frequency, passive/active,....
thank you in advance
We see a lot of cheap AMT brands poping up from few years... with less than 100 to 150 usd. I wonder if all those AMT seen everywhere from Dayton to Monacor, Airborne, etc, etc,etc are not comming from the same chineese plant and just few things differ as the housing and back damping ?
In Klang & Ton 4/2021 they test the Mundorf AMT U60W1.1, U80W1.1, U110W1.1 and U160W1.1.
The three bigger ones have excellent waterfall diagrams and very low distortion

The best AMT that I heard in the last 25years (don't know the raal amts or mundorfs) is the Eton ER4 by far.
I'm usually a full range/midtweeter kind of guy but would happily make an exception for that AMT.
Heard it as part of the probably most famous DIY speaker in germany, the Duetta.
It just sounds infinitely precise without ever being even remotely harsh. Coupled with a 7-360 driver from Eton or the smaller mid woofers, is pure bliss.

Well, I use a bass horn with Vitavox 15", and two Altec 416a in vented cab, on each side, below 50hz.
I like the low bass line array. It fills the room much more evenly.
Can't really think of anything that would be a worthwhile upgrade.
Maybe putting it on a waveguide to gain some headroom on its bottom end and match better with the 12".
Or maybe a Bliesma T34B on a waveguide...

Hi Angelo.
Your threads got me interested in TPL, so big thank you!
I use TPL-150H and cannot comment on any better AMT alternative, but an alternative with your TPLs: I have moved into open baffle and removed the back cover of the TPL and made a DIY back waveguide with similar geometry to the front Beyma waveguide, and I'm liking it a lot. Sounds more open to me. I'm experimenting with xo, been raising from 1.5kHz to current 1.7kHz and will try higher up too (NT2 in my case). My recollection is you are xo at 1.6kHz to the 12".
In OB with the waveguide, the TPL has great polars back to front up to 7-8kHz which is where folks say is worth getting for the backwave in OB.
Needless to say OB is a different sound, especially in the bass/midbass. Outstanding definition. Same in midrange.
Something I'm also experimenting with is MTM with such a large tweeter. I'm using two 8" per side, for the time being both run the full midrange (275 to 1700Hz) and I'm not being annoyed by lobbing. I was planning an inductor between both but so far don't need it. Smaller mids of course allow to xo higher than 1.6kHz, where the TPL behaves even better.

Hi,
When is it useless to make an AMT bipolar please ? For illustration, is it still usefull upon 3 K hz in a pure treble behavior use ?

Mundorf pro AMT's some of them go as low as the beyma or lower with no issues.
Radians LT line came out this year.

There are several different manufacturers. Tianle makes the Dayton brand. Hygaeia makes the Airborne and Legacy branded drivers, which I prefer to the Tianle. Aurum Cantus makes their own, and it is very good. Heil/ESS, Beyma, Eton, Mundorf, etc are all independent to my knowledge. I've never heard the ER4, but always wanted to.
