Hi, I want to build a pair of speakers for my desk ( PC ) , Size is not a factor . ( kind of on a budget )
First I found the Dayton's TCP 115 , with many people using them and then I found SB Acoustics who have great drivers ( satori , ceramic etc . )
I dont know what to chose between Dayton and SB Acoustics, these are the drivers I was looking into buying.
The Dayton's seem to roll of at about 2.7khz , and also bass not so great .
The SB Acoustic's have higher sensitivity , great bass but I dont know that dip at around 50hz and from 4khz they have a spike to around 7khz
idk take a look please. at the PDF's .
For Tweeters I'll get something not to expensive, textile or silk . Dayton or Monacor maybe.

If you are starting out and not wanting to follow an existing design then the coaxial version of your SB Acoustics driver might be worth considering for a desktop. A basic crossover is given on the site. Not sure about cabinet designs. If you have measurement gear and want to use it to fine tune a design then looking for a suitable midwoofer and tweeter may be more fun.
I'd like to go 2way , woofer and tweeter. I ve built speakers before. I can use WinISD to simulate the cabinet. If you are starting out and not wanting to follow an existing design then the coaxial version of your SB Acoustics driver might be worth considering for a desktop. Just a thought. A coaxial is a 2 way with a midwoofer and tweeter but arranged in a way more suited to sitting close at a desk.
Yes I know what it is . Thank you tho.Just a thought. A coaxial is a 2 way with a midwoofer and tweeter but arranged in a way more suited to sitting close at a desk.
I have built up both the SB13 coax and the Dayton CX120 coax. They are both great value with the SB being more detailed. A point to keep in mind is that the SB driver is nominally 4ohm. They also seem a little overkill for a desk.
Were you happy with the quality of the SB's ?I have built up both the SB13 coax and the Dayton CX120 coax. They are both great value with the SB being more detailed. A point to keep in mind is that the SB driver is nominally 4ohm. They also seem a little overkill for a desk.
Are you happy with the SB build quality , sound?. I think between dayton tcp115 4 inch and SB13 ( no coax ) I ll go for the SB then.I have built up both the SB13 coax and the Dayton CX120 coax. The coax here is around 60$, the non coax 30$
Both drivers I mentioned are pretty low-end units but the build quality is very good on the SB if you don't mind a plastic basket. If you go with the Coax, you don't have to buy a tweeter as it's already there. The crossover suggested by SB Acoustics works well.
Co -axials are a sensible choice and you only have to make one driver cut out.
If you are set on having separate woofer and tweeters and keeping to a tight budget the cheapest SB 19mm sounds fine and can be made to work nicely at 2.5KHz -3KHz 2nd order crossover slopes.

If you are thinking about a desktop speaker with coaxial driver, if your budget can stretch that far, Morel makes a very nifty 5-inch coax. Here it is in a sealed box with an SB passive radiator and a minimalist series crossover. I have a business acct. at Parts Express, and my current price is $180 each. You could also position the loudspeaker vertically with the PRs pointing outward. I use a little triangular piece of wood scrap to aim the driver at ear height. If you wanted a vertical orientation, you could put the driver closer to the top edge. You could also put the PR on the rear panel.
Best of luck,
