bose wave radio laser diode replacement

Hi all ,i have a bose waveradio (AWR3CG model),the cd player doesent work,I cant see the laser diode working in the pickup,i have tweaked the driver voltage and cleaned the lens but no light output,i assume the diode is dead,is it possible to replace just the diode as the optical sled isnt available,TIA.

heres the diode, can anyone identify the type etc so i can find a replacement?,on testing with my fluke 83 on diode test mode,i get both expected voltage drops but no light output

Find out who made the mechanism, start from there.
Most likely Philips, or Sony, or....Chinese!

If Chinese, you are in bad situation, model changes were frequent, and you may need a lot of diodes, putting one, adjusting, and replacing if it does not match.

Getting diodes is also an issue, most shops stopped keeping them here, too many models to keep in stock, and low demand.

Just shift your CD collection to hard disk, and use a USB stick adapter for playing music.

Search for FM module, many people here put them in old cassette machines.
Allows Bluetooth and memory cards, and sticks, also aux in. Supply from a 7805, works well, only about $1.50...

messing around with the diodes is useless, you'll never get another one in proper alignment unless you have the factory equipment to do so.
Because once a diode is deemed bad, you replace the whole assembly, as is done in repair shops.
And yes, those Bose units are chinese made. - aka garbage in my opinion.
I've had them on the bench in the shop and they're common trash with a big brand name stuck on them.

I know what your saying but why not stick to what i have asked BUT the laser assy is no longer sold,so getting another diode to try is worth a go,also the diode goes upto a datum so cant be that far off, worth a go as fas as i see it,thats why i need the case style +poss part number etc ok,hope that makes it clear?.

That's the trouble with chinese-made products from any manufacturer - short-lived support resulting in the 'throw away' mentality of today's products, benefitting commerce with continual revenue.

OTOH, A Bose wave radio made in the USA with only USA made parts would be 10x the cost and nobody would buy it except the most patriotic Americans. Also you last statement is incorrect. Literally tonnes of Chinese made goods with long life support etc. It's all about the corporation that puts their name on the product whether or not it will have good/long support.
As I said before, the Chinese will make anything to a price point. Want a cheap but it works long enough to avoid warranty claims, They do that. Apple make their stuff in China, too. Is Apple "cheap Chinese garbage"? Nobody thinks that about their hardware. Their "walled garden" is crap, but their hardware is nice. If I could get an iPhone that ran Android, I'd be happy 🙂
Also, I challange anyone to find a "made in USA with USA components" audio product - I don't know of any that are NOT made in China or at least made with Chinese parts.
I just checked one of my builds, and all parts were Chinese made except the Canadian chassis.

You're right though, trying to get the alignment right on a CD lens is like trying to align a phono cartridge wearing a baseball glove. Certainly a test of patience.

CD were replaced by DVD long back, and here a repair man would not do it, because the client would not pay for the 4+ hours it takes to replace a unit, see if it works, or replace with another.

You may read up or see videos of the procedure and equipment involved, if not familiar.
And remember that about 40 types of CD laser were used by Chinese suppliers, here we had MP3 and VCD formats also on CD.
Now all USB, or streaming through cell phones.

Bose have been reported to be cutting costs, even though they charge top dollar.
That is another issue, and your unit must be over 20 years old.
Have fun.

is no one going to answer what i asked or just keep having the keyboard equivelent of verbal diareah,i need to know the form factor of it,bit like a transistor could be t03 or t0 18 etc ok.
WOW!
Nice attitude ya got there!
