So I purchased a Yamaha A-S500 on the bay this week for £80 for the man cave, picked them up, and the guy had a pair of Mission 734 against the wall. Said one of the woofers was dodgy and would not sell on the bay but happy to take an offer, I had a £20 left on me and they were mine.
Needless to say got home and that cone was dodgy (the mission 733 and 734 have polypropylene cones that are known to get very brittle).
One of the cones was a mess, the other had a small crack in, the two in the other speaker not a crack in sight (guess one was dropped or something).
As I had nothing to lose, a bit of modellers Revell Contacta and a thin strip of duct tape, I had a play and they are back to at least working.
I'm surprised how well the glue worked, seems to have seeped into the cracks and strengthened them.
So what now?! I can either part it off (the cones go for £40+ used, and I have two in good nick, plus the tweeters etc). Or I can play round and bring them back up!
The design is interesting the top woofer seems to be enclosed, the bottom one a ported enclosure.
What are cheap ways of improving the sound?!
Thinking I could also replace two of woofers (clearly even it up so one new one in each side). Any recommendations on speakers?! Should I put them enclosed or ported side?!
I've read the Monaco linked below can be used, not sure how good they are though:

Though I have not owned a set if my guess is correct, putting both good woofers in the top enclosed sections they will contribute to the midrange and work with the crossover the way they were originally intended to. Then it's just a matter of fixing the bass.

Cheers, that's a pretty quick and easy improvement, can look at the ported woofers next. Is it worth putting any foam in the enclosures?!
Quick update, when I swapped the speaker cones over I realised it came equipped with a layer of around 5mm of foam, one less job to do.
