I am both intrigued and intimidated when I read two or three sentences and have no visual of what the person is talking about, sorta like high school and college.
I think I will do a budget convesion on this SEP amp I have to make it an RH84 and worry about sub standard components as I go especially since I have really no idea what I want or like in this department.
Will the RH84 have treble and bass adjustment or can that be removed and handled by the preamp? Will I still need a balance pot? The one I currently have seems to be part of my problem to begin with.

RH84 is a straight power amp (althou a 100k pot can make it a simple integrated). A preamp does the fancy stuff.

Unless its pushpull or one for each load. If he would trace where the wires of the balance pot goes it would settle this.
I do need to remove the amp from the console. I haven't yet because of the way the power cord is secured, has a clamp on it in a strange way, hard to get to the screw holding the clamp. I will get it out and trace the signal path. What is the technical definition of Stereo? I always thought it was two seperate channels all the way to the speakers.

Im not sure what the exact definition is because you can have two monoblocks or two sets of speakers hooked to one amp.
is there another speaker hook up where this image is cut off?

Where does Admiral rank in the console department? This is a new listing on CraigsList. The tuner looks to be solid state. I may go look at it. I really like the look of the cabinet. Maybe I can hide more than just a turntable in one so I can keep collecting them. One will have a washer and dryer, refrigerator, garbage can, toilet, dog water bowl.....

I wasn't able to get by to see it today so I'll have to wait until Saturday. I doubt I'll get much competition. The seller says both TT and reciever turn on and work. Is there anything in particular I should look for on this one? I'm gonna check this one over better than I did the last one, it wasn't in as good a shape as the seller let on but I'm still glad I got it.

As long as I can remember Admiral was a cheap drugstore brand. Most that were in that class were coasting on a famous name from days gone by that had impressed the world many years previously. I wondered if Admiral had at one time been a sought after brand instead of just generic vendor rebadged junk.

I picked up the Admiral yesterday. It is pretty heavy. Has alnico drivers but I haven't removed the back to see what they look like but they feel to be about the same size as the Magnavox. This console has 2 or 3 amplifiers. There is one that is part of the reciever and then another assembly below it on the shelf between the drivers. I have the owners manual and it states that this unit has individual amplifiers for left and right to produce the amazing true stereophonic sound and play this new FM Stereo broadcasting technique.
The PL-514 TT I recently purchased has a noisy left channel. It seems to get a little better if I wiggle the left channel RCA connector. Does this sound like an easy fix or do I need to do more investigating? I haven't asked the seller about it and he stated it worked well in all regards, packed it fantastically and has been very helpful up to this point. It is super clean and everything else works and looks fine. The cables look to be the originals and fit rather tightly so if I just need to replace the cables with newer better quality pieces I have no problem doing that.
I was also able to acquire a NAD7020 and currently have it connected to the Magnavox drivers. It sounds really good except the left mid is either quiet or dead. Bacon665 mentioned that these old caps can break down and open or block all frequencies so I think I'll bypass it to see and then replace it as necessary.
So in 30 days time I have joined the Tube Amp cult, the Alnico Cult and the Vintage Console Stereo Cult. Soon I may be too snobby to speak to any of y'all, enjoy me while I'm still mortal.

The RCAs typically used in the day sucked big time. Get thee down to Radio Shack and get some of their high performance RCAs (they are the cheapest ones, 8 or 10 for $5 (here in Canada) and have plastic barrels)
With the NAD replace the steel jumpers from pre-to-power with a short pair of interconnects.

I have read up on some of the 7020 mods here and look forward to doing that eventually but it sounds so good and clean as is I'm not gonna mess with it until I have something else to listen to and have all of the items to make the mod. I wanna pace myself on the path to HiFi purity so I can enjoy the ride.
