Buying Plitron Transformers?

I've got antek's in my F4 now. Anyone have thoughts about the best sounding toroid that's available commercially?

Too bad about Plitron, I was kind of hoping to just recreate this PS...

This may help. I'm not sure if someone has been in touch recently with a person at Pilton, but perhaps for a GB or someone with a lot of projects. I'm not sure if they don't sell to consumers, or just have an MOQ.

Plitron Transformer minimum order USD 1200. (April 2019)

And thanks for that. I emailed asking for a minimum order amount and didn't get a response. Would totally be willing to do a group buy if anyone wants to get involved.

Another consideration (coming from someone that knows absolutely nothing about what makes a great transformer) is to try the Antek "S" line with the shielding and add one of their steel cases. I just got a few of them for a pre-amp build and to add to a power amp build to try out. They seem very well built, and based on a quick call, they purportedly work very well for minimizing interference with other components.

Granted, they're not as cool and shiny as the Toroidy Audio models, which at some point I want to try. Right now, I'm going with the "stealth" look.

Yeah, I don't know how realistic it is to purchase from Plitron any more. 🙁

The Anteks seem quite good at a decent price and are actually available. I've used
two and they are fine (AN4018 and AS3018, in F4 and F6)

I have a future project that requires custom transformers. I've heard good
things about SumR/Primrose in Toronto so I'll probably try them.

The power supply in post #5 looks stunning. I'm guessing that's from an XS product?

I never get tired of looking at that. Still as amazing as the first time seeing it. Is this one in your shop Dave? Any chance of it making an appearance at one of the Toronto DIY meetups? I guess a meetup this summer is unlikely but whenever it's safe to get a group together again ...

Hope everyone is keeping well!

I got an email response from Plitron and it doesn't sound like they are doing anything that's not manufacturer production runs. Forget about $1K or even $2K plus I don't know if they are even operating currently. They do make transformers for medical equipment but wouldn't know if they are an essential service.

Yes the preamp was at the DIY meet a couple of times and the dac with similar power supply too. The phono stage is almost finished ( working on an update to the turntable because it doesn’t work without it). I find power amp differences audible in the shop , preamps not as much. But at home on full range ESL’s with JL subs it really shows how good it can be.

Yes don't know when the next DIY meet might be, at least I might get a few projects finished if I have to stay home.
