Hi all!
I was wondering if someone could advise me on some cheap fullrange speakers to build some BIB´s?
thanks in advance 😀

I thank you for your kind reply! It sure looks great!😀
It is a pain to find whatever pioneer driver here in Portugal though...
I´m about to read some reviews on it´s sound quality, but nonetheless, sure looks tasty! 😎

The Dayton RS100-4 iBIB is quite cheap, and easy to build from fencing wood, cheap and no rips needed. Sounds great.

OK, what inexpensive 'FR' drivers with a ~40-50 Hz Fs are available to you? Once you have some specs, it's just a simple matter to use the BIB design worksheet.

why not try a european driver? the monacor sph-60x (or 68x) is cheap and easy to find. i built a bib for a friend and 2 years later he still loves it. impressive bass from a 5" inch driver.
i remember some talk of some very cheap tesla drivers a while back -- with a little research you may find a good candidate.

Being inside the EU, you can buy from anywhere inside the union, can't you?
Here's just one example, - there are several more...

It's my understanding that this is a functional equivalent to the RS 40-1354 that T.C. used in his original BIB except better and with a more extended HF. If so, then using this driver in his BIB seems a great 'el cheapo' ~full range speaker choice.

it is done everybody!
Just had me some monacor sph-60x bought online!
It is very unusual to find this sort of material for audio diy.Not much happening around here...unfortunately!
I´ve been absolutely delighted reading some posts in this forum and I´m starting to learn something from all of you!
I´ve tried about six months ago to build Cyburg´s viech. But it is really hard to find any shop here where I can have the wood cut.I know it´s stupid, but it´s true! And so,I´ll have to try something easier (bib). The Beyma´s really are lovely sounding, even without any box...
Yep,I´m already addicted to this diy audio thing.just purchased an lm1875 gainclone chip amp,but a cheap one from china!

I should have said it before (I believe I have in another thread) but I had much better luck with this driver and some tripath amps. Compared to a lm3875 gainclone the tripath amps I tried (Charlize, Amp32 and one from Arjen here on the forums) sounded much more full with more bass. I would not hesitate to try the Amp6 from 41hz and imagine this would be a great match and a really easy build.
Also, before cutting any wood what are room dimensions/placement limitations? Do you have corners, will they be up against walls, etc? With no corners, not wall loaded or high ceilings I would recommend a downward firing version.

no worries about mismatching the speakers and amp, this lm1875 I bought just set me back some modest 22euros...😀 And I´m always looking forward to try new projects!
About my listening room, all I can say is that it has a regular rectangular shape, and it´s filled with diy bass traps!yep,I´ve got a lovely wife that doesn´t care about the number of loudspeakers or their size!😛
The beymas I have right now playing against the wall with no box seize not to amaze me...and with a relatively modest sounding receiver from sony!

Well if you can put them in the corners and your ceilings are not too high I would go with the regular (upward firing) dims.
As for the amp, I didn't mean to discourage you I just didn't have any luck with the gainclone combo. You may also be surprised by how well the Monacor's work with the Sony receiver.
Make sure everything is sealed really well and enjoy!

I made some good BiBs last year from Tangband W4 Bamboo speakers. They are sold for 49$ at partsekspress. I used cheap Philippine Meranti 16 MM plywood. Cut it with a 45 degree miter on the saw at work. Then just taped the edges together with duct tape on the outside. Filled the miters with expanding polyurethane glue and folded everything up in one operation. The cabinets are bass port upwards for corner loading. It took about 1 hour to cut everything. and 10 minutes to glue up the boxes. After stuffing and breakinn the speakers sounded great on my little SET amp. A little high in the 2-3000Hz region was tamed with a notch filter.
By the way I used the ZillaSpeak BiB calculator spreadsheet.

Weah, it´s easy to work when you can borrow a roomy carpentry workshop, with a professional saw and someone to help handle the plywood. Really a dream situation.

You´re all really nice guys everybody, thank you for all your replies! 🙂
And maybe this should belong to another thread but...Meanwhile,i´ve had the chance to start building Cyburg´s "Viech",I couldn´t stand to watch the speakers gathering dust...
And as I almost finished building one loudspeaker box,I gave it a try, with one side panel poorly attached with just two clamps...I had high hopes about it´s sound quality, but all I had was a boxy thin sound, with absolutely no bass whatsoever and lots of midband coloration. The loudspeaker box was built as stated in the plans...I wish someone could tell me this is a stupid way to test a loudspeaker!
but I just couldn´t resist...
anything I could do to gather some more interest in finishing?
please forgive me if this should be in another thread!🙂

If I recall correctly the Viech is changed dramatically by stuffing - I saw some experiments on this but can't dig them up right now. Stuffing brought my Needles to life - when they were incorrectly stuffed, they sound pretty much how you're describing the Viech.
Also ... I would expect that driver to loosen up with time, quite significantly.
Also, I recall multiple independent reports of people falling in love with their Vieches upon giving the volume knob a good cranking 🙂
Directly related to this thread, I really like my Omnes Audio BB 3.01 BIBs. These drivers are kinda like "upgraded" W3-871's. Still cheap, though. For certain music the BIBs are simply superb, they're wonderful. With other stuff, they lack bass. A bipole with the same drivers would probably be great, but yeah, I'd try drivers a liiitle bit larger on the first try. 4" probably.
But the 3" sound is magical ...
I did things just as recommended in a thread, with some rock wool just below the driver.I tried it with and without, but things didn´t improve much unfortunately... 🙁
I did cranck up the volume, but still got no bass at all...I must say though,I´ve tried all this with a very bad thin speaker wire, less than ,75mm I think.
should I try to put a lot of stuffing?Does it have to be a rear wall to produce some bass?

Oh...about 3 and 4" inch drivers,it is true, there are some very good alternatives but,to be honest,I listen to all kinds of music, classical, jazz, fusion, rock, pop, and sometimes without some high spl, things just don´t sound right to me...
It´s not that I´m a bass freak,not at all,to me it´s about dynamic sound!
