Cheap Small Fullrange Transmission Line building plan

Hello,

i am looking for cheap (~50$[driver+audio crossover], 2 sides) fullrange transmission (because i made the best experiences with the bass of TLs) line loudspeaker. It should not be bigger than 14x30x30cm (WidthxHeightxDepth).

Any plans you could recommend me?

Check this 3:2:1 TL out. Makes nice bass and very adaptable for a number of full range drivers. I have basically scaled this plan up and down from 3in to 5in drivers with good success. Need driver with Qts in 0.3 to 0.6 range and it will work fairly well.

Despite what X says, a generic TL will not be optimum for a chosen driver… X's TL is the same topology as the Woden Baby Labyrinth series of small TLs http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/247904-woden-design-3-box-designs.html. You will see that each line has been optimied for the driver, despite all falling within the criteria X suggests will work in his line.

In Europe i expect that most of the drivers exceed your budget (except the Aura NS3), but Euro distribution is such that you might ($50 each or total? No crossover required).

Once you have a driver, if you can't find a TL for it, a line should be modelled. The software for this is from Leonard Audio (there is a long thread here somewhere)

Yes, it should be modeled and I did model it in Akabak. 6 of 6 drivers modeled fine with simple scaling by Sd. Yes, I know many will tell you nothing scales by Sd but perhaps I got lucky. Also I tested 3 drivers and the measured bass extension matched scaled predictions and were relatively decent looking. Needs BSC in any event. There is also the freedom to adjust volume a little by changing width but leaving other dimensions alone. Tell me what driver you have in mind and I can run model for you.

Actually i tried to develope a tml speaker myself, and it looks like this (driver is the FR58EX). What do you think about that?

Looks OK. F10 just above 80 Hz (ie they don't go very low). Be nice to see a sim with the real results of damping included.

Okay, i forgot that the driver is 3.64cm thick so the first tml part must be a bit wider (now it is 3.2cm + 1cm Wood = 0.5cm space).

Hmm, a lot of trouble for a 2" full range, but I think it will work. Keep one side open to experiment with stuffing. You may still want to augment them with a subwoofer, but they should be fine as is for computer speakers etc.

Smallest TL's I've built were simple reverse taper type using the old 3" audax full ranges. Those actually sounded quite nice.

A lot of trouble indeed but that FR58EX is special - I am testing and listening to one right now. It has some amazing high frequency capability and very little of the metallic fizz and ring of typical aluminum cones.

So it's me again,

i actually re-thought my last plan and made a new one.

The box is now deeper (which i like more) and smaller (.25 liter). 85Hz@-5db.

Which one you think is better?
