The Chinese ES9038Q2M DAC board ES9038 Q2M DAC DSD Decoder Support IIS DSD 384KHz Coaxial Fiber DOP | eBay now the newest version is on 1.07.
Personally I used the earlier version with raspberry pi 3B for almost one year. the performance of this board is outstanding, i feel direct connecting to I2S works the best. there's still no consensus as to what Music Player and which drive is the best choice. At the moment Volumio2 and the ES9028Q2M plugin Forum Audiophonics.fr • Consulter le sujet - Volumio 2 Installation Plugin ES9028Q2M Volume Hardware seems a good solution in the meantime.
Direct DSD and DSD over PCM are both not supported yet for I2S. the following waveform is a study of the PCM formats on Volumio OS.
9028Q2M plugin doesn't play at 16/44.1, with output noise only at right channel.
The generic I2S DAC and hifiberry-dac drivers don't work either, with the
same symptom.
Rpi-DAC driver is ok but converts to 32bit at the background. Volumio playback ui for all those drivers show 16/44.1. 9028Q2M plugin plays ok when switch on resampling and select 24 bit, but it also converts to 32bit at the background.

sorry about the odd size images, i don't know what happened, they are all the same size when uploaded. i tried to edit the post by deleting 1st image, it's all good now but i can't edit it again, maybe i need to wait. thanks
For 24/88.2, all 4 drivers play, but converts to 32bit at the background. Volumio playback ui all show 24/88.2.
For 24/96, all 4 drivers play, but convert to 32bit at the background. Volumio playback ui all show 32/96.
For 24/352.8, all 4 drivers play. Generic I2S DAC, Rpi-DAC, and hifiberry-dac drivers convert to 32/192. 9028Q2M plugin keeps it at 352.8 converted to 32bit. Volumio playback ui shows 32/352.8 for all these drivers, so it seems deceiving.
Runeaudio player hasn't been updated for a few years so i stopped using it for a long time.
Does Volumio convert every PCM formats to 32bit? Is the 9028Q2M plugin the best driver for this Chinese ES9038Q2M DAC Board at the moment? Any comments, suggestions, and solutions are appreciated.
