Converting an iPod Touch 4th Generation into an outboard DAC

I know there are a lot of smart people on this forum, some being electronic engineers and enthusiasts. I'm using an iPod Touch 4th Gen and absolutely love the sound that I get from it once I connect to my preamp. I plug my iPod into an Onkyo docking station which then provides stereo analogue outs (RCA). Since Spotify cannot run on this iPod due to the old iOS, I can only play music that is stored on the iPod itself which is a bit limiting. I'm wondering if the iPod can be dismantled and the analogue-in intercepted to turn it into an outboard DAC?

Hi Sam,

I can't help with your question, but I have the same ipod that connects to my car stereo. Are you running an old version of iplayer to sync to the ipod or do you load new music manually ? (iPlayer stopped support for this years ago if I remember right)

Thanks,
Rob.
