your right, forget the gamboy LCD, but anyway, I bought a Ratheon CITIZEN ST755, and it has a nice, but passive LCD. no TFT. but, the backlight is pretty bright itself, I ran it through the optics, it projects, dimly because of light. but 1 question.
What are the little squares I see in the picture? if you look close enough, it is a cluster of very fine red green blue.
but if you slightly turn the lens outta focus, you cant see them, but it gets a decent picture! thats the secret. what are the squares?
BTW, I have to turn the TV upside-down, and its viewable, but its BACKWARDS? like a mirror. Whats the deal here?

You don't see Telex or Bell & Howell in that list do you. Looks like German brands only.
mbates14,
These are the "delta" patterns. Red, Green, Blue to make the picture. Combine those and that makes one pixel of nearly infinite colors, probably more like 256 though or maybe a few thousand in this machine.
Yes, if you slightly defocus the picture it seems a little better. It makes them blend more fluidly, rather than the "pixellated" look.
When you mount the panel you have to turn it around and upside down in a slide projector. The lens in the projector reverse's the picture. I forgot what's it's called. It's normal.

1.8" TFT LCD's
I contacted Data International, and they have some 1.8" TFT LCD's (528x220) in stock, I believe they are AUO/Unipac ones. Ralph Sharp at Data International quoted me about $105 US for one including the driver board, power supply not included. I picked up one at that price as well as a 3.5" LCD for $135, I'm going two different projector routes at the same time, I'll let you guys know my proposed 3.5" projector setup when I have some more time.
SushimasterX, I got my Carousel 4600 slide projector, haven't taken it apart yet, just a couple of questions. I think I'm definitely going to have to get extra cooling, it looks like the slide slot is right next to the bulb. Just turning it on, I think I can smell something burning... maybe my slide projector's defective. Another thing, I just turned on my slide projector to test it out, I couldn't even see the beam projected against the wall in a dimmed room, the bulb's definitely on, I can see it shining in the machine, but no light seems to come out the lens. Maybe I'll check to make sure it's not blocked or if there's some interior cap, just wondering if it's normal for it to be so dim.
Oh, and here's the link, you can find Ralph Sharp's e-mail from the links section on the main page.

Sharkwong,
Great! They do have!
I contacted that same office and spoke to one of the other guys there. He checked their stock and said they did not have those panels, only the lower resolution one's in stock. He said he would contact the main office and get back with me. Never happened...
At first, he said they had them and he quoted the price but, then I asked him to repeat the Model # of the one he pulled off the shelf and it was the low res one he had.
Let us know if you receive the high-res one! I certainly want one but, don't want the low-res by mistake. When you receive, please confirm for us here.
I think they'll get a lot of business if they have those. Those are pretty good.
Oh yeah! The projector has a screen that closes if there isn't a slide in place. That way if you have a empty slot in your slide carousel the bright light isn't there on the screen bugging your eyes out like a flash on a camera! Just pop in a slide and you should see it open up.
The smell could just be oil or dust in there. Maybe, it hasn't been used for a long time or maybe it was in a dirty environment and stuff got caked up inside. I used mine around fog machine's and the fan sucking air in combined with the high heat at the same time created a giant gunk magnet!
Definitely needs degreasing if I want to use as a SLIDE projector again. All the mechanics are nearly frozen. Like trying to start a car in Siberia. But, it will work for one slide, an lcd slide!

Well actually the gameboy advance screen could work but it's resolution is low.
You can the GP32 a Koren based handheld with a 3.5'' reflective screen 320x240 resolution tft. It stroes data on smc cards it can play mp3s mpeg etc and it can also can be connected to computer it cost $159 it can be found at the site below(goto handheld)
www.lik-sang.com
And check out www.devrs.com/gp32 for ways to play with it
If you have ever seen a opaque projector work you'll see a way to project reflective lcd screens. Light is shown on the lcd, since it is reflective it will reflect light back then all you have to is throw a lense in front of it and bam a projector

That would be nice to have this little projector box and plug in your RAM card and play a movie off it. Just imagine 5 years from now!
I kinda get the reflective idea. I just don't get how the RGB lights hit it and reflect off in the correct time. Your creating an illusion in your eyes, I get that. But, what bright multi-colored light source is bouncing into it.... Is that the color wheel that spins at 4.something khz?
Anyhow, it still seems like something larger than a boot box. Geez, wish I had the cash to play with all this stuff. Why couldn't I have been Edison?!

😀
Yeah,
That would be great if you could find a lens to put in front of it.
Otherwise, it's OHP style.
It's pretty cool looking though. I stopped when I was browsing and gave it a thought. Nice to have by the bedside like it is, only $200 too.
Hey! Are you in Hong Kong? Phoeey!, "Number one super guy!",~ "Quicker than the human eye"..., just bored...oh, what a night...

Okay, I must retire from service...
does it really matter?
But of course it does! If I were to 'everbarate' longer than I would be doing a service to others and isn't that what it's all about? Why, I think it was Prometheus who once said..., well you know what that guy slings.
Darn must be 50 posts for tonight. I think I helped my......ego?
Wow, there is a really bright orange thing in the sky! Wonder how many lumens??? Must be about 6000 K...
How many bits have I turned on tonight? 'Nite bits!

Multilingual too!
I have a Sushiguy for each language.
Brainstorm! Only two hours of sleep, ahh!
Looks like I might have helped one or two so far.
Always happy to extend the glad hand!
These computer 'net thingy's are really cool!
Anyhow, got plenty of free-time till I vacate US. Might as well use my noodle for something.
Global Ops get's boring after 5 hours.

My panel is coming!
Whoopee!
Just won the bid for a Sony Glasstron LDI-50 (800x225). Two, .7" 180k pixel lcd's. $140. Unfortunately, only one driver.
I wonder if I could put one in front of the other to increase the picture definition. One would be slightly out of focus and the other would overlay with a sharper pixel...
Or, maybe I could divide (through circuitry) the picture in two with one projector shooting the top portion of the picture and another projecting the bottom part. That would give me an 800x500 screen total. Still, this would be far away from the 1.5 million SVGA panels. But, still pretty darn good.
Oh boy, toys are coming!
This time next week should have some projection pics to post!
Also, anyone have any recommendations on how to handle the financial end at Ebay, if this thing doesn't end up working? Does the seller have to except a return?
Does using a Visa card help protect me?

I'm gonna build one too !
Thank You SushiMasterX and others for your contributions ... I've read this thread last night and again tonight and want to build one too ! My wife is willing to give me her Grandma's Bell and Howell (It's not a Carosel... she won't part with her Kodak). I just put a bid in at ebay for a radio shack PocketVision 22. (I have to wait till june 10th to see if I win it). I hope everything comes together...
Just want to say thanks, you guys are great.
Some ideas and uses ... I like how bands at concerts project through a transparent sheet/screen... This could be acomplished by reversing the LCD...
I play in a Contemporary rock/Praise and worship band and we now use an overhead projector to put song lyrics up... to facilitate others singing along. We have someone changing overheads on each song.
I forsee figuring out how to project my laptops display so lyrics could be put up like a powerpoint presentation. ... Also see projecting graphics plugins like G-force (Available with musicmatch and other MP3 jukeboxes). ... these computer generated graphics change in time with music and look awesome.
I know I've alot to learn/experience and problems re heat, lumens, etc. I'll let you know when I get started and have a LCD display.
QUESTION ... There are alot of 2.2" screens available on ebay . Will this fit a slide projector or do we need 1.8"
PS...
My recent DIY projects have been Audio, Mics, Preamps, Guitar Mods, and retrofitting old Hi-Fi tube amps to guitar amps. I host a Large archive of Christian songs/lyrics/chords and have pages at my site of my electronic projects and an archive of guitar effect schematics.

The Bell & Howell you have may be the same as the pictures of mine I posted on here. It's a cube model.
I think you must get a 1.8" or smaller. This seems to be just perfect. Any larger and your cutting off some of your picture and resolution.
This tv is the passive type and I don't think will work well for reading/singing graphics off of. Some video, cartoon's especially, will be okay on this one.
If you can outlay 80-100$ I would recommend one of the active-matrix Unipac's makes.
I'm pretty sure you will be unhappy with the results of the projection off that tv.

I'm glad I was outbid on the pocketvision22... see you used the pocketvision 32 ... Is that active ? I also have a slide projector which I might look into using... i DO'NT HAVE $100 YET for this project... but will keep searching ebay... and classifieds.,garage sales...
Is there a list of portable LCD TV's that are 1.8" color and active matrix ? Brands and model #'s to search ebay for ???
Thanks for your response.

Good to hear you lost!
But, seriously, I think you would have been upset with that.
There isn't a list per se of the lcd's you want. You'll have to do some gumshoe investigation on Google or your favorite.
There are so many and almost everyday someone posts saying they have a lead on a juicy one.
But, you are always welcome to come and ask us here if you're not sure about one you find! No problemo.
Yes, the 32 was an active matrix. I found several of those at pawn shops all over the US. I usually spent about $50 for those.
Did you say that you would use this for reading song lyric's off of?
Or, was that your laptop panel you were speaking of?

I JUST BECAME INTERESTED IN PROJECTION TV FROM CONSERTS AND SOME COMPUTER BASED LYRICS AND GRAPHICS I'VE SEEN ON STAGE.... WE CURRENTLY USE AN OVERHEAD... I COULD GET A USB ADAPTER TO ALLOW A LAPTOP TO FEED INTO A TV AND PROJECT LYRICS AND GRAPHICS PREPARED FOR SONGS WE DO.... JUST A THOUGHT... IS DARKNESS NECESSARY ? TOTAL???
JUST TOYING WITH THESE IDEAS... I DON'T REALLLY NEED A PROJECTION TV AT HOME.
THANKS FOR THE NOTE ON THE 32.

Halo, Selamat pagi!
I sent email just now, Gunawan.
Jim:
I think the folks in the main thread can help you with that laptop idea.
I think you would be fine pulling the case and backlight off the panel. Is that what you had in mind? The OHP's seem to be able to do the job with a few lights on. It wil depend on the type of projector you have, the bulb used and the age (Generation)/type of LCD you are using. Do you have any more details about that LCD?
Again, the folks in the main thread know all the in's and out's of the bigger panel's and ton's of info to digest over there regarding building that type.
