I'm considering buying a couple Alpine SWR 12D4 Type R subwoofer off of Amazon for 140.98 each. But then I was looking at Alpine's website and they want $280 for the same one.....? ........ So how is it that I can get a new one for $140 on amazon? Makes me suspicious.
Any idea's?
Thanks

SonicElectronix has them for $149.95, so those are quite likely legit. The prices on the Alpine site tend to be overstated I think. When I bought my Type Rs, I got them for considerably less than the price on the Alpine site as well, and that was shortly after the current versions were released.
If you are looking for a sub design to go with this driver:

Ok thanks for that. I feel better, it's on it's way. Im running dual's and Im going to replace my two 300 watt JL Audio subs with two of these bigger boys, want to go bigger. Thinking about driving each of the new Alpines with a separate of it's own, so as to avoid a 1 ohm situation on one amp. What's your thoughts on this? Suggest any amps?

Alpine PDX-M12. It's a mono amp. Wire each driver for 4 ohms, then wire the two drivers in parallel for a combined 2 ohm load for the amp.

The drivers are each dual 4 ohm, I can't wire them as 4 ohm, each will be 2 ohm.

They are Dual 4 ohm so they would be wired as 2 ohm and in parallel together 1 ohm.

I should have bought 2 ohm drivers. Ive already bought a new driver that is dual 4 ohm, If I have to I could wire the voice coils in parallel on that one for 2 ohm, and the next one I buy I'll get a dual 2 ohm and wire those voice coils in series, then I could wire the drivers in parallel for 2 ohm. I should have bought the first one a D2.
They are Dual 4 ohm so they would be wired as 2 ohm and in parallel together 1 ohm.
I think the PDX-M12 delivers the same amount of power into 4 ohms as it does into 2 ohms. So you could by another D4 driver, wire the coils in series, then wire both drivers in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

I just got my new sub today, I'm looking at the emblem at the bottom of the cone and it says R, but looking at some others of the same woofer online there is the word "Type" above the R. I've read somewhere online that if it's a fake the word "Type" is missing.....Mine does not have the word "Type" above the R.... Here's a picture of mine. Here's also a link to the Crutchfield site that I saw this video of the woofer that has the word "Type" above the R...Hmm.....

The subwoofer pictured on the Crutchfield site does not have "Type" written above the R. My Type-R drivers also don't have "Type" written above the R. I've measured their parameters and they are a close match for Alpine's published values - you typically won't find this with a "fake" driver.
