Scammers made hundreds or thousands of spoof calls with a 95 year old woman's number right here in my community. Her name came up on the caller ID and she checked out as 100% legit on a google search.
Back in the 80's I was addicted to this rag in New England called "The Want Advertizer". You'd hear stories like a guy answers an ad for a Mercedes 450SEL for $1 and finds out it really is a Mercedes 450SEL for $1. (Husband took off with secretary, calls wife and asks her to sell car and send him the money)
Nowadays we have Craigslist. I dread listing anything there, as the ONLY people who answer are scammers. I make like I'm so stupid even the scammer cant take it. I lost one sale that way, but others either ghosted me or claimed something happened with their bank and they dont have the money anymore - after I suggested we meet in person at a Walmart parking lot. Of course, forget simply using your phone number like you could in the 80's, gotta use their email relay which anonymizes your email.
I hate checking my email for radio silence 99% of the time and then, only to deal with the scammer nonsense. Occasionally, I actually do sell something to a real person, willing to meet me at an anonymous location.

I’ve had trouble with both paypal and amazon and stopped using them both years ago. Fraudulent charges were traced back to my paypal account, it was taken care of but if I hadnt seen the couple dozen small charges they’d have gotten away with it…….kindly makes one wonder how many times its happened I didnt catch it! Amazon! those buttholes wouldn’t let me cancel my ’prime’ subscription, finally I had to change my credit card # then they somehow tapped into my savings account which wasn’t even tied to my card…..said OK, thats how you wanna play, I then emptied the savings account to $1…….dang bank sends me a overdraft notice saying I owe them the $7.95 (or whatever it was for amazon monthly) and a $35 overdraft fee……there was no checking/debit tied to this account! You wanna talk about some kinda irate! Ended up shutting down my entire dealings with the bank……it was a credit union so maybe that made them more vulnerable. Worst thing is the bank manager said it happens with amazon alot and theres nothing they can do about it. 😳
Cool thing is regarding the robo calls, my cellphone area code is still from NC, so its quite obvious now (10+ years after moving) that if its my old area code and not in my contacts it gets the red swipe! 😛

We once got a several calls where caller ID showed our own phone number and name! Guess they just need one valid line number and name within an exchange, then probably sequential-dial all the line numbers in that exchange. They don't give a crap if someone sees their own number and name on caller ID and reports it; they've moved on in a day anyhow.
I get loads in the UK.
Usual one is a phone call that my pc has a virus and I need to log on to a website to fix it.
I spotted a USB oscilloscope on ebay for £12.99
I checked out others the same and they were at least £50.
So I reported listing to ebay but got ignored.
They went on to sell 211 items at £12.99 before negs started rolling in and listing was pulled.
2 weeks later different seller bit same scam.

I love Canada because when I get a call from the "Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)" trying to scam me, I start speaking French and demand to be dealt with "en Français" since Canadian Government services are bilingual. That usually gets them off my line in a hurry. That or if I know it's a cam caller, I answer "Toronto Police 52 division, PC smith speaking"...
Or just have fun with it. Ask them what they're wearing 🙂
Today, I got a text says "there was no safe place to leave my package and to reschedule at "posttcanada.ca". They rely on their victims being stupid! The real address is canadapost-postescanada.ca (which also looks like a scam address if I'm honest).

Tbh I just love scam calls. In real life I’m a nice and agreeable guy. But they give me the perfect excuse to behave like a total jerk. At the start of the call going along with them. Playing stupid. Trying to keep them on the phone as long as possible, frustrating them More and more. Mostly they end the call. haven’t had a scam call inquite a while. Such a pity. I loved playing a jerk.
But I love scam calls! I’ve spent many an amusing hour on the phone with scammers. The experience can be like performance art. What sorts of outrageous things can I say and how long can the scammer be kept on the phone?Never answer your phone unless you absolutely know who is calling
Alas many are now by text, and while those can be fun, not nearly as much fun as voice calls.
Bear in mind that if you say the word yes for any reason, they can fake your approval
for charging your credit card. And they already know your number. It's best never
to answer the call in the first place for the average person, who is often rather naive
about these things.

Not according to the people I've read about, saying they were scammed in this manner.
But, of course, those are small potatoes.

The latest one has showed up three times in two days. It's a fake invoice from Paypal for $479 to Binance that is overdue for payment and needs to be paid or cancelled within 24 hours beyond which it becomes non-cancellable. Google tells me that Binance is a crypto currency exchange, and I have not participated in that Ponzi scheme yet and have no plan to.
Stopped service on our landline. It seemed the only calls we were getting on it were scammers, so save a few bucks a year.
How's this for spam/scam email? (I don't underrstand Chinese)

You have to be careful using checks because your bank account info ie routing and account number is all there for someone to use. Online auto pay is safer, easier and efficient. Just make sure you check your CC statement regularly and deal with a reputable CC company owned through a major banking institution. They will usually report suspicious activity almost immediately and stop the charge.Still find it hilarious that the US is still using checks, but if it works for you then fine 🙂
We had to get new cards issued regularly thanks to fraud, but at least we don't have to pay. I refuse to use PayPal unless absolute necessary. They are horrible. So is eBay. Their server is awful and easy to get scanned by someone stalling to ship stuff out then its too late for you to contest, even after you report them. If something is damaged in shipping, good luck working that out. Most sellers don't take out insurance even though they charge you for it.
It only takes one greedy maggot table server from a small mom and pop restaurant to collect CC info and sell it on to purchase prepaid gift cards to barter for drug purchases. Card skimmers on gas pumps are also common and those chip readers on the new smart cards. You'll usually see a weird ping on your CC for a few cents from a gas station, then when they see the card number works and nothing was blocked, they escalate to a larger charge from online merchants ie TVs, clothes, jewelry. I use a small CC on purpose for local use so they can't hit it for alot of money if something goes wrong. That way i always have a backup way to pay.
I use cash whenever I can. Online is a different story. You're usually stuck using a CC
I learned from Frank Abagnale's YouTube video how to protect yourself.
I cancelled my Paypal account after learning Paypal could steal $2500.00 USD from me if they decided I posted misinformation anywhere!

I use a credit card, never a debit card after watching Frank Abagnale.
Good Luck.

LOL In Canada, if you want to "get paid" my PayPal or eBay, you need to link your chequing account to it. Still, I'm not concerned. Canadian consumer protection laws are far better than in the USA from what I understand.
And for the record, every time I've ever had a problem with an order, be it the wrong item, crap quality, or it just didn't come, eBay, PayPal, and AliXpress have all responded to my claim within minutes and sided with me. Out of over 1000 orders, there were only about 5 issues that needed intervention. Sure, you might have to wait for a period of time (AliXpress is 75 days or 90 days depending, the others are quicker).
Sure beats mailing a cheque and waiting for a King's age for your stuff though IMHO.
Cash is great for buying drugs and being robbed without recourse, but people even pay for drugs by "E-transfer" now LMAO
