I have TWO Z-5500's and ONE Control Pod. I would like to tie the two SUBWOOFERS together but unsure the best way to do that. Tie the second subwoofer speaker directly to the first one (in series or parallel — power/impedance issues?) or do I need to tie the two amplifiers together? Thanks much!

Hello everyone. I have a z5500 about ten + years and i like it.
First, the backlight of my Z5500's control pod LCD screen is broke. A classic and chronic problem. I solved this by changing the SMD LEDs. After this repair, the screen worked smoothly for a long time. But a few months ago the screen went completely gone. The backlight LEDs of the LCD screen are still on, there is no malfunction in the functions of the set in terms of sound, but the LCD screen is completely gone. That's why I recently ordered a new screen from China, thinking that the screen was broken. The new product arrived today, I installed it, but the situation is the same. I wonder which areas and parts of the pod's PCB and alos maybe sub should I focus on for repair? Which IC controls the display, I think it's Zilog Z80 but I'm not sure. I would like your experiences and suggestions. Thanks...

I notice there is a Warning near the Control Center D-15 connector: "Do not use extension cables to connect the Control Center." Why not? Seems to me that if the extension cables are properly shielded there shouldn't be any problem. Can someone please enlighten me — thanks much!
I should clarify: I want to connect the two subwoofer SPEAKERS so that one box drives two speakers. I see that the TDA7294 can drive speakers not less than 4 ohms and the data sheet mentions it will also drive 16 ohms. So, depending on the impedance of the two subwoofer speakers I should be able to connect them together in either series or parallel without any problems.I have TWO Z-5500's and ONE Control Pod. Hey, undertone I’ve tried everything in your post and can’t seem to get it to work, I would love to have some help if possible, thank you.
Hi y'all, hopefully you're all doing well. Had some questions regarding the bypass for the z5500. I was able to get in touch with another z5500 owner who had modded his main amplifier in the z5500 with better components and also built his own pre-amp board which replaced his main control pod. Below I'll post a schematic of his pre-amp. Let me know what y'all think. AND his custom built pre-amp also allows him to play his satellites are pretty much full range.

Hey @K4n0 sorry for a newbie question. That pre-amp board is the what you use instead the control pod (the board that is inside control pod unit), correct?
If the answer is 'yes', can you tell me if the schematics that you provided allowes me to use my optical toslink connection or I'll be forced to only use RCA connection?
Also, could you share some photos of how your 'new' control pod (with new pre-amp board inside) looks like now?
Thanks!

@twist3r sorry for the late reply.
No, this thread mainly discusses bypassing the control pod. In the thread you'll see multiple people building a bypass pod to get z5500 working again after the original pod dies. None of these DIY pods will allow you to use toslink/digital connection. This is for analog which can still play 5.1 surround movies but not dts encoded files.
My prevent comment was about another custom control Pod which someone had designed and built which would featured tone controls. But NO Digital Connections im afraid.

Greetings from Australia! I'm so glad to see so many others have enjoyed these speakers. I've had my set for well over 10 years and have only just started experiencing an issue with them. figured I'd try my luck here. They turn on fine from the control pod but after a minute or two, the sound stops and the screen on the control pod goes mostly black (the blue led still is on). I have to turn the sub power switch off and back on and theyll work again for about the same amount of time. I did some research and found the easiest possible fix is replacing the fuse in the back. I went and got an identical fuse from Jaycar audio and replaced with but the same issue persists! i couldnt see this specific problem in any of the searches ive done but was hoping for some help on potentially fixing without needing to get too crazy and replace or bypass the control pod. thanks!
