Hi Randy,
I wouldn't buy that combo, it doesn't allow you to do everything you want to do.
Instead of DATS, get ARTA software instead. ARTA does everything DATS does, plus distortion/frequency response testing of your amplifiers and acoustic speaker testing with microphones. You need the ARTA software (75 euro), a USB audio interface with 48V phantom power for the mic, and a very simple diy switch box for impedance testing. A cheap measurement microphone like the ecm8000 will get you into acoustic testing.
For scopes I would skip the USB and handheld ones and buy a regular desktop one like the $210 Hantek DSO2C10 from banggood. If you want to spend less than that just get a used analog scope instead.
Thank you for taking a look at the units. I really like the ARTA idea. I have a Yamaha MG12XU that has USB interface and 48v phantomEeevblog has a video on finding a $50 scope on ebay here
And here's the eevblog review of the $70 scope you were considering
I'll start with this, as I am setting up a dual 46" screen for electronic microscope in a multi display array from my bench laptop. I found the wall brackets for the screens at the reuse centre today for $5 each
I really appreciate your help as I was floundering. Thanks and regards
Randy
Hi
Sorry, I actually linked the wrong scope. I wanted to inquire about this one I am linking below

Also, does the ARTA system use probes for amp testing? Would you recommend any, please? I have downloaded the program and will order the mic now
Kodabmx, good point, it looks like REW does everything for free. I didn't know REW did impedance/ts parameters. Randy, sorry if you already bought the ARTA key!
Randy, I think the MG12XU should work fine with ARTA or REW.
You don't need probes, just a voltage divider to bring the output of the amp in line with the soundcard, at least for single ended amps. There should be instructions for making various test rigs in the documentation.
The ECM8000 is good as long as it's cheap, here in the US it's $35. You may also consider a calibrated EMM6 from cross spectrum labs in the US, that's $75 plus shipping to Australia. If you get the EMC8000 use it with the mic capsule 90 degrees to the speaker, while the calibrated EMM6 should be 0 degrees to the speaker (pointing at).
Regarding scopes, I would actually avoid hantek/owon/fnirsi/etc. I know I suggested the Hantek DSO2C10, but that's just because people seem happy with it once the firmware is updated. In general people have a lot of problems with these brands, many bugs, issues with measurements, no support, etc. If it's a usb scope don't count on driver updates in the future.
Again consider:
Used analog scope for $50
Old used DSO/MSO such as Tektronix TDS or HP 54622 for as little as $100.
Used Rigol DS1052E or siglent sds1052dl for $200. These are the reputable low end chinese scopes.
I had to buy a scope recently and I was considering a Hantek DSO2C10, but I decided against it. I settled on a used Siglent SDS1104X-E for $325. It has some nice features like low noise inputs, powerful fft, bode plots, protocol decoding, and firmware that is not buggy. I think the low noise input is especially attractive for analog audio work.

If you still want to go Owon/hantek, read the respective threads. These models at least have a following so you can know what's broken and what works, and what piece of firmware you need.

Thanks again man. I ordered an EMC8000 from Manny's music in Sydney. It was AUD$65 delivered, should be here in a couple of days. I have downloaded ARTA shareware and will give it a go vs REW and see how I go with eitherIf you still want to go Owon/hantek, read the respective threads. So here I am at now. If either software with the EMC8000 and an appropriate jig can do the following, then I wouldn't immediately have the pressure of buying a decent scope until I can increase my budget
View
Audio signal at line outputs
Line output frequency response, spectrum
Audio signal at amplifier outputs
Amplifier output frequency response, spectrum
Speaker in a box frequency response, spl
Measure
Distortion
Speaker driver parameters
My apologies for sounding simplistic, I will become competent once I start messing around with these things. Thanks and regards
Randy
No problem, you can do most of that.
There are freeware oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers that let you look at the sound card input, I think that covers your wishlist.
I know Arta has information on building the impedance jig in the user manual. See the documentation page. If you want thiele small parameters you measure impedance and then get the Thiele Small parameters from a menu.
Again, when you use the ecm8000 make sure the sound is 90 degrees/grazing to the tip of the mic, see the diagram below. That mic is flat at 90 degrees, and hot in the treble at 0 degrees.
And good luck with all this, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Ok cool, much appreciated. Takes a bit of a load off knowing that I am mostly covered with the software
Thank you all for taking the time out and helping with this. I'll see if I find need for more than what ARTA and REW can do than I will invest in a new one in the $300 to $400 or so range
Thanks and regards
