I'm adding more caps to my crossovers and have some 28AWG upocc solid silver wire. Is that wire OK to connect the caps to the 18AWG leads going to the AMP inputs and speaker outputs.. See attachment.
With a rise to 75C a 28ga wire can take 1.8 amps continuously. I wouldn’t push it that far but you could. It’s a waste of solid silver wire in that use. It’s really a signal wire.
I just happen to have a few feet of the silver wire that I bought fifteen years ago to make some interconnects. I'll never use it again so it's not a waste to me. I'l have to find out the amps that would go through the caps in the crossover powered by my Parallel86 amp

You can always parallel pieces of it, if needed.I just happen to have a few feet of the silver wire that I bought fifteen years ago to make some interconnects. Yes, it will work fine. Thanks for the reply but does your respone mean 28AWG wire is OK?
Noo big deal using it inside a crossover: short "fixed" wires, but if used from crossover to speaker units zip tie or staple it to a cabinet wall , vibration/transport eventually breaks long thin solid wire.
So I found a website with a chart that lists the amperage rating for different AWG sizes. How can I determine the amperage that will go through the caps in my crossovers?
Ohms law lets you do it. Start with the max wattage of the amp to be delivered to the driver. That chart rates continuous current not the intermittent current seen in speakers so the wire can handle more. The resistance is more important as it effects everything. A short piece will have very low resistance so the bottom line is don’t worry about it and just use the wire!
You're welcome! Need a bunch of new tech savvy folks in the not too distant future to replace all us old-timers here.
I want to finish the XO so I figured that measuring the leads on the caps would lead me to a safe wire size. The size varies from 23awg on a 0.22uF to 18awg on a 30uF. So i'm going with 18awg. But I will look into the formulas.
