Jacco
I just picked up a book at random. Inside it says:
Copyright symbol..."All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted, ina any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise without the prior permission of the copyright holder."
Well, that couldn't be any clearer could it??? So I'm afraid what you say about anyone being free to build a copy for themselves, as long as they don't make it a business is just plain incorrect.

But Jacques you haven't made it clear at all.
Now you are challenged to reveal the hidden depths of the saying your obfuscation is clear for all to see. Yes do go look it up.....
LoL - "your obfuscation is clear for all to see" - believe me that pun wasn't intended. I just noticed it.

you can build all the replicas you like..even use the exact same design in a commercial product if you so wish....I may be you can't publish the service manual or the schematic drawn by Jeff himself, but you may redraw it in LT-spice simulate it and publish that. The design in question is so old that any protected novelty in there is long expired and can be used public...
MiiB
You're wrong, but please feel free to test that by redrawing any copyrighted circuit in LT-Spice and posting it here. Just let us know which circuit you broke the copyright law on in your post.
Then just wait for the letter from the lawyers.

Take a look here....
Audio Circuit Denmark
Just search this very forum (diyaudio) and you'll find plenty of those redrawn circuits,, from hiraga to krell...
Do you really think that this would be up....if you're right...Jan must be one very poor guy if lawsuits was hitting him as fast at you suggest...🙂

MAYBE HE HAS THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER'S PERMISSION - WHO KNOWS? IF NOT, MAYBE HE'S LUCKY SO FAR AND NO ONE HAS NOTICED.
Please read my post #22 and let me know which part of that copyright warning isn't perfectly clear to you. You'll see the same message in every service manual on that site.
You will notice, however, that most of them are for old equipment, so it's probably not worth the companies sueing him if the kit is not made any more. But that's not what we're talking about here - it's about copyright laws.

In fact, at the bottom of the front page of the site is the following:
Disclaimer! All material on these pages are either written or made by me, found on the internet or in magazines etc. Any violation against copyrights etc. are unintended. Please contact me if your rights has been violated.
I'm afraid that's not going to protect him.

You're obfuscating again Jacques. Did you look it up?
I asked you to explain the deep meaning of that saying which eludes me but is clear to you. Are you going to continue dodging the question?

why would anyone spend time and money on taking out a patent if all you have to do is add an R in a circle...and write a copyright notice...I assure you taking out patents is much more work than that....They have to be claimed for novelty, examined to see if the claims hold. Filed and then flied again in every country where you want the patent to be valid...Now you cant prevent that copies are made in some countries, cause you don't have any jurisdiction there .. But you can prevent that the copied product from being marketed where you do have a patent...Like what happen to Samsung Galaxy 10 tablet in Germany. where apple took Samsung to court for patent violation.
Patents run out which is exactly the Reason why Eli LillY now has their own diabetic type two insulin.
This is getting tiresome...and stupid...If what you claim was the case there would simply be no DIY Audio.. as all that you see here in part or in total is by no means new...!

"My country have a popular sentence that says:: The thief think that all the people are thieves"
That's about the clarity of thought I'd expect from the Spanish. Maybe it loses something in translation but it seems rather a rather meaningless and pointless saying to me.
Why on earth would a thief think that everyone else is also a thief? It doesn't make any sense. Do you see what I mean ramallo?
Hi, scourge of defaulter

Is easy, the thief have the conviction of all the rest of the people are thieves like him. In Spanish (For your practice): El ladrón cree que todos son de su condición.

I couldn't resist, a photo for you: 😀

Have you the schematic?, if you don't have the schematic, please stop of do the troll.

If the patent is ended is "ABSOLUTELY LEGAL" share it (Except the original document), here in Europe. But, this device (or part) is patented in Europe?, or, the original document is protected by the copyrights in Europe?, please enlighten us.
Bye bye 😀
Ramallo et al - did intelligence suddenly take a vacation here? For the final time, we're talking about COPYRIGHT of documents not PATENTS on inventions. The two are completely different and covered by different laws. We're also not talking about BUILDING a circuit or ADAPTING an existing one for your own use from a schematic, just REPRODUCING a copyrighted document (e.g. a circuit diagram from a service manual) and posting it here. It also doesn't matter if you have the amplifier or not. Is that clear enough now?????
Here's an open challenge in very simple words. Will anyone who thinks it's legal to scan/copy or, in whatever form, reproduce part of a copyrighted document please do so and post it on this forum. Anything will do, just make sure tell us from which publication you copied it.
If not then I must assume you know it is illegal and are afraid of the possible consequences of doing that.
Jacques - I'm still waiting for an explanation from you about that Spanish saying.
