Happy I ran into this forum thread with the X-230 to boomy fix. Thank you very much to make effort to publish this.
I use this set for my electric drum kit, and it is the best/rich sound I've heard in the PC speaker realm, but when I hit the kick drum, the sub woofer is way too boomy compared to the speakers. When turning main volume down to get the subwoofer where I want it, the satellites are way too low in volume.
Reading about mixed resistors in this fix, I got the R160,R169,R174,R180 resistors and a turning switch.
Did the electronics and the acoustic foam thing and tested this morning... It works great now!
But... I do not notice any difference in subwoofer volume or sweet spot settings when switching between the four resistors. So I would say, pick any you've got available, it will work fine.
