Looking for a good phono preamp schematic.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a tube phono preamp schematic for an mm cartridge that also includes the power supply. Preferably nothing that would cost more than £200 to build.

I have plenty of experience building amps from schematics but I do not want to have to try to design my own psu.

The budget PSU I usually recommend will not work in "240" VAC house current zones. Let me look at AnTeK and Triad power "iron" for a cost effective alternative.

You could have a look at mine also. The assembly manual is a free download and includes schematics, parts lists, measurements, etc.

You would need to provide 18VAC at 1A, 50/60Hz as an input to the power supply. You could probably DIY for £200, although I don't know what parts cost in the UK.

AnTek's 28 USD AS-05T120 will easily energize the tweaked RCA setup. My WAG for total cost, including shipping and VAT, is 35 UKP.

"Full wave" voltage doublers would be used for both the B+ and filament supplies. A little, TO92 case, LR8 regulator will be employed in each channel. The budget PSU used in North America happens to employ that useful IC. 😉

For that 200 quid and being british I'd have a look at Glenn Croft's earlier fully valved efforts.

Think Micro, Super Micro and so forth.
