I just purchased a 50 year old HK receiver at an estate sale
it looks like for the past 30 years there was tape on the front panel
I was wanting to know how others have removed this tape without damaging the plastic or metal on the front panel. I can think of many ways but not sure which would be safe. I dont want to destroy the finish of the front panel
the picures are samples, there is more than just two pieces to remove

First try simple dishwashing soap and water. Then go on to stronger things, like isopropyl alcohol, vinegar, etc.
Some lettering can be removed by some solvents, so try on a small area first.
Looks like a HK-430.

I would use a soft damp cloth first, and add a drop of liquid dishwashing soap if needed.
My three HK-430s have never needed cleaning.

I tried the soapy water route first and it worked

That's good.
Snug up the output device mounting screws on the heat sink, if you don't replace them.
I've never had any need to replace transistors.
Same for capacitors, don't replace any if not necessary. The originals sound great and last a very long time.
Cleaning all controls switches, pots, etc. (only with deOxit D5) is the only thing to do first, then burn in and try it out.
