Luxman R-113 relay(?) issue

I got Luxman R-113 from a local craigslist. I like its sound. Much better than my Denon PMA-560 that has been serving me at my office room. But after about a couple of weeks, it started to have an issue. After listening a while (the period is a little random. Sometimes after 10 minutes or sometimes after an hour...), I hear a relay clicking sound and then no music from the speakers. If I tap on the top of the receiver, there's a relay clicking sound and music comes out. I thought it might be a bad relay and tried to clean it. But the relay is sealed. I checked with a service manual and got a part number. But the part is not available any more.

Do you think it is a really bad relay or do I have to check others? I've de-oxited all the pots.

Quite likely to be a dry joint somewhere... anywhere... but favourites would be the output and driver transistors and the VAS stage which probably runs hot. Also check any voltage regulators for dries.

This would be typical of how they might look. Q352 is poorly soldered. Look carefully at the cracked ring around the solder of the middle leg.

Don't know if the speaker relays in the R113 are the same as the Luxman R117 but if they are, then this relay works just fine.

My R117 had the same issue that you're describing so I pulled the relays and checked them. After mangling the top of the relay case opening it, I found that the relays looked nice and clean . I replaced them anyway and the problem went bye-bye. The cause might very well have been a dry solder joint so Mooly's recommendation is a good one.

Thank for your suggestion, Mooly. I will check the soldering this weekend and post how it goes.

Thank you for the information about the relay. I think it will work with R113 if the dimension matches because R113 has lower power. I will try that if a dry joint that Mooly mention is not the culprit of my issues.
