I would like to build this Elektor preamp, today what is the best replacement for MAT02 and MAT03 or better then BC550/BC560.......
Maybe MAT12 or SSM2212 for the NPN pair, SSM2220 for the PNP pair. The SSM2220 has the status "last time buy", so it will not be available for long. By the way, apparently the space version of the MAT03, the MAT03S, is still in production.
THAT Corporation 300-series Low-Noise Matched Transistor Array ICs
These are on a modern DI process, and they are all on the same die unlike a comment someone made recently. They both have sub nV noise under similar conditions to the SSM parts, the PNP very slightly quieter due to the different flavor base sheet resistance.

Thanks, Scott actually these are very similar to MAT02,03...THAT Corporation 300-series Low-Noise Matched Transistor Array ICs

Thanks Marcel, were do you buy the SSM2220 ? do you have the link ??Maybe MAT12 or SSM2212 for the NPN pair, SSM2220 for the PNP pair. They are marked as "Last time buy" on the Analog Devices site, but they are already out of stock at Mouser, Farnell and Digi-Key. Farnell still has 25 parts kits that contain an SSM2220 and an SSM2212 - but that's a very expensive way to get them.

Maybe some small parts shops still have some lying around, I don't know.

Yes Marcel, hard but lucky enough, i found some in a small shops.. do you have any advice for BF256C replacement
Maybe BF245C or BF545C, or a BF245B (or BF545B) with reduced source resistor (about 390 ohm), or even a BF245A or BF545A with no source resistor at all.

Merci Marcel, i found cpl of BF256C...in a small shop in France, Now Fairchild/On semiconductor recommendation for replacement is the J111Maybe BF245C or BF545C, or a BF245B (or BF545B) with reduced source resistor (about 390 ohm), or even a BF245A or BF545A with no source resistor at all.

Elektor preamp SSM2220 & SSM2210
Hi,
For sales SSM2220 & SSM2210 (DIP-8) they fit for the PCB above and they are the best available replacement for MAT02 & MAT03 Dual Transistors.
I bought the PMI in 1991 from Spoerle Electronic a German distributor se at the DATA Code.If you buy more than 12 pair I will not charge 4% PayPal fee. Sales only NPN & PNP pairs. I ask for 3,50€/piece plus shipping from Finland + 4% PayPal fees. Contact me if you are interested.

I received the SSM2220 & SSM2210 couples in good condition, Walter. The SSM2220 are installed in my Hiraga MC preamp. Thanks!
Elektor top of the range phono stage
Hi I built the elektor top of the range preamp for a friend back in 1988 and have since inheritied it. Its a great build if I say so myself except that I was always suspicious that the phono section gain is too high even when adjusted via the sil switches. Its tight but distorts on vinyl material with a lot of content. I can post a copy of the phono stage which used a MAT02-h differential stage coupled to a an OP07 opamp gain and RIAA stage. Can anyone help or has anyone ever encountered this same problem? Do I simply reduce the value of the opamp feedback resistor and alter the emitter current of the Mat02-h input stage? It was originally designed primarily as a high quality moving coil stage but could also be used with mm with only one MAT02-h array which is what I have. Thanks in anticipation. I have all three copied of the magazine article which were kindly sent to me by Elektor. Normally you would have to subscribe. So just a tip if anyone is in the same boat without a diagram.

I am interested in your SSM2220 & SSM2210 ic type.
How can I contact you by phone.
How can I contact you by phone.
I have family members living in Germany.
If you have SSM2220 & SSM2210 items, can I buy them from you?
Thank you very much
Old thread, but seams like a good place to aske about this preamp.
I've had my eyes set for building this preamp for quite some time now.
It's hard to find any further information besides from this thread. And very helpful reading. I don't have MAT02/03, but loads of BC550C/560C or KSA992F/KSC1845F if these will do if properly matched.
As for the BF256C I have purchased Onsemi J111 as replacement.
But two questions:
-The volumepot, how many Kohms should I use for this preamp?
-For the PSU I'm thinking of a 20VA or so regulated power supply with 2x6800uf. What did Elektor recommend as PSU for this preamp?
Thanks🙂
Best regards
