Meridian 101 Service and Recapping

Hi there guys, long time lurker here finally putting a post up!

I normally do small jobs on guitar amps and effects, my friends Meridian 101 preamp is not sounding as smooth and good as his old one that was in superb condition so was going to recap

After looking at this thread: - https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/133110-meridian-101-recap.html

I am wondering what caps can be changed in value, as others have replaced the 1000uf and 220uf in the power section to higher values etc

I was going to change them like for like with values and keep everything simple, but also wonder what types to use,

I have Nichicon 1000uf for the main power caps, and a selection of Nichicon fine gold caps that have been pulled from units in good condition,

I was going to replace any smaller electrolytics with the Nichicon fine gold caps in the hope it should improve it

On another separate note I have some Nichicon MUSE caps, I pulled those from a working unit in good condition, but when I use them in my tester they are all measuring 56uf when they are supposed to be 100uf, they all test exactly the same, could they have worn in exactly the same manner? Or could i be the way those caps work and how my tester 'sees' them?

Any help is appreciated or if someone can point me to a Meridian modding website as I cannot find any

Thanks

Hi there,

Could I replace this 100n ceramic cap with another type? Will another type like a poly box cap work here?

I cannot find this electrolytic 1000uf capacitor on the schematic, just the 104 25v ceramic marked on the way out to earth and chassic ground

I have put up a picture with the caps marked

So is this model a plain 101 not a 101b? It would be nice to also do the CD Input mod if possible on this model

Thanks
