microphone preamp

only diy mics so far, panasonic wm60's and 61's, but someday i will get a line audio om1 to check linearity of my mics

i only record for measurement purpose; loudspeakers and rooms and some noise too

only cheap stuff for hobby use

Agree with Adason, use the mic preamp within your soundcard, most of 'recent' offers are pristine as is.

May i suggest you to invest into a microphone with calibration files for measurements?

I mean i totally get the diy things about microphones ( this is how i got the bug) but for measurement i would prefer something i know is somewhat 'calibrated'/compensated.

It doesn't need to be fancy, a Dayton or Behringer is perfectly fine ( within their limitations) as long it have calibration files.

The Primo capsules are the best of the class and would be my first choice. The Panasonic's are history for some years now.
The only problem is Primo likes to sell them in quantities of 500 per box. But if folks want them do let me know and I am sure we can work something out. Folks who may be interested in some should P.M. me with a quantity and mailing address.

yes panasonic are history but still works good, but i do have some differencies between my samples, some more then others, i only use those that is in agreement. i once had a kim girardin calibrated wm-60 capsule, i sold it together with audiomatica clio lite many years ago, i still regret that i sold both

i used to have behringer ecm8000, not calibrated by csl or the like, the only good thing with that one was that it was plug and play, no fiddeling with battery boxes or anything

line audio om1 seems to be a very accurate mic at a low cost, measurements against earthworks m30 shows good agreement, by having an om1 to check other mics would be nice, only problem with om1 is the large capsule size

what would 5-10 of primo capsules cost incl shipment to europe?

Yes it happen. But from what i've seen with current offer it tend to disapear.
Anyway if this is what bother you no need for another preamp but for an external phantom supply. It does exist stand alone and one chanel ( for Live duties).
Check at Thomann, it should be in 60/80euros vicinity.
