I see a lot of nice designs discussed here. I am looking to get back into speaker building I abandoned years ago. I want my first project to be a full range driver in an enclosure I can use at my desk.
Recommendations on driver/box suitable would be appreciated. I will be driving g themwithahomebuilt 6BM8 tube amp with very low power, but great sound.
TIA

For desktop I suggest something like in the second picture, repositionable bowl.

FE108eΣ would be even better.

Or LX configuration for wide dispersion near-field (see recent gallery). The enhanced resolution might make working at the desk impossible.

Budget wise, I think I can swing a couple of drivers from Fostex or Mark Audio. The mini fonkens (?) Look OK, not sure the size is appropriate. I will look up some plans.

milliSize, miliFonkens, mMar-Ken. I put a whole lot of drivers in this box. Best was A6p. Jeff has a set of those he used, but has since swapped in the rectangualr A7.3eN Mar-KenR in Bamboo he won at a diyFEST.

Thanks mayhem, but I don't want powered speakers. I want to drive my speakers with my 6BM8 amp I built.

SE or PP?
A nice small amplifier if you did good job. Pictures?

The Q150 is not powered…..it’s passive. I’m a professional mixing engineer and have been using modified Q150’s as my main nearfield monitors for over 2 years now as they beat any 2way for clarity and coherence that I’ve ever worked with. Even ‘as is’ in the stock enclosure, they’re better than most. Thanks mayhem, but I don't want powered speakers. I want to drive my speakers with my 6BM8 amp I built.
Better. I followed Stephek on AudiKarma, her Skunkie designs YouTube videos on he build. It is a sweet little amp, puts out about a watt. You can see the small speake, it is from an old Sony surround systemI pilfered. It sounds okay, but I would like something abitbetter. I was thinking a small full range driver in a font port/vent box would work as they would be right against the wall.

SE, so likely high Rout
Higher effieicncy may be needed depending on levels, butloudspeaker impedance (ie non-flat) likely plays as large or larger role.

Dave, yes, Weil, low power. I just want to build a small full range for listening at my desk, something like a 3” driver.
It is also a test case for a larger speaker for my 3-5 watt 6lu8 seul amp that is my main look cd and streaming listening.
THAT will likely be a super pencil.

My favorite, also supports Alpair 5.2/3, CHN-50
Except for the small one,the same box alignment in a range of shapes.

And they sound sweet too. The downside is lack of efficiency and low bass output compared to the larger drivers.

I think that with the low power amp with budget output iron, in addition to listening at my desk, one of these will work as well as can be expected.
