All- Happy and safe holidays to start- I have a decent pair of 2-way speakers that really need the banana binding posts replaced and I am looking for your recommendations on what and where to buy- The plate these are mounted to are for 2 posts for each speaker- Your help is appreciated- I want to buy good quality - I need 4 and would pay up to $50- less would be better- I was looking at Dayton terminals at Dayton Audio BPFI-G Fully Insulated Binding Post Pair Gold 091-630 Any comments pn these? They look pretty good-
Or if you have a recommendation for a terminal that I could just use bare wire that would probably be even better- I have seen some that you can use banana or bare wire-?
Thanks again-Barry

Virtually all of the banana posts you can buy will accommodate bare wire. Often referred to as "5 way posts".
Those are very expensive posts -
You don't need to spend that kind of money - binding posts do not make any difference in sound quality so go down in your price point, unless it's about aesthetics too.
You can eliminate binding posts altogether if you want - "The best connector is no connector..." - just drill holes the same size as your speaker wire (separate the +/-) - run the wire inside the speakers and solder it to the crossover. The other end just plugs into your amp. If you're concerned about any air leakage you can run a bead of silicone around the inside of the holes in the speaker.

sure they dont...
Got mine for $6.00 (CDN)
Red/Black, drill two 0.5" holes 0.75" apart and bolt them in. Silicone if you want to.
Handle lots of current.

In my speakers they do make a difference to the sound quality:
Once I removed them and couldn't hear a thing.😀😀😀

Binding posts do make a difference... but the amount of money spent is not a good metric to quality.
The PE ones you point to are an example of that. They have a much better set (same as used on the EdHorn), but PE makes them very hard to find.
Look for something that has little metal in them. Plastic nuts help.
The best way to actually use a 5-way post is to sneak the internal cable out of the box, thread a bare end into the hole in the post, do the same with your speaker wire and use the post as a clamp to hold them together.
Do pay attention to what DUG said if you get ones without a platform -- 3/4" spacing is standard.
And if you get posts that are not removable from the outside of the box (ie on a plate eor in a cup), you may find yourself creating a blue streak somewhere down the road.

How do binding posts improve sound reproduction?
Especially as opposed to none at all? If a binding post improves sound over just soldering speaker wires directly to the crossover, what exactly are they doing?
That implies that speaker wires distort the signal, and somehow binding posts repair the damage.
No.

No.
Let's open a new thread called
"The sound of binding posts"
Next one will be
"The sound of fuses"
And so on.
There always will be audiofools interested.

Are you responding to my post? If yes then you are read something into it that was not intended.
Connectors always degrade signal compared to no connector. How much a binding post degrades the signal is what i was referencing.
dave
No I wasn't
I was speaking in generalities. If there are sonic differences from one binding post to another, that just reinforces the argument not to use them.
