I have taken the liberty of making a new thread just for the new Mark Audio MA200 8cm driver rather than have it hiding on page 122 of the MA New Drivers thread. This makes it (and projects that use it) easier to find. Details of the MA 200 here:
https://www.markaudio.com/online_shop/20-cm/ma200-m-multi-midnight-copper/
I'm hoping that people will post their projects and ideas here on how they plan to use this driver. I'm hoping that when they have a moment Scott and Dave will also give their thoughts on this driver and possible usage cases.
I'm particularly interested in the cabinets Scott has designed for this driver (especially the one going down to 25Hz!) and what sound characteristics each box might have. What are the pros & cons of the single versus double ported versions and how much flexibility is there to change box shape (curved sides, rounded baffles, ovals, triangles etc.) provided box volume is maintained? What scope is there to combine this driver into a 2-way or even 3-way system?

20 cm nominal, 8’. First MA driver to be numbered such that that number is related to the basket size and not the cone size.
A decade (or more) ago, Mark thot a nominal 6.5” (A12) was the limit of what he figured could be done, but technologymoves on.

Response chart looks nice (on-axis). Dimensionally fits my 17L TLonken cab standard 19.0/22.4 cutout. Not in taobao store yet.
We've been working on it for about a year, since first inception, although we've been plotting larger units for a while. Availability will depend on when distributors / dealers place their orders & what they decide to buy, so it may vary a little between regions until they all catch up. You may be surprised at the target price point though.
And when is the 10 inch coming?
Slowly building up the daft questions, before I ask about the 15"... Since Fane stopped making theirs. 🤭

I bought a pair of 15" Fane full range for cad$178 each several years ago. Vintage balanced system with Klark Teknik parametric and a Bryston 2B amplifier. Dynamic and holographic with life sized, real sounding instruments. Big fan of larger full rangers while accepting the compromises.
Congrats. It's a very nice looking driver. 👍We've been working on it for about a year, since first inception, although we've been plotting larger units for a while.

What do people make of that big wiggle in the FR and impedance around 450 Hz? (Magnet/basket resonance?)
Transition from pistonic to chaotic radiation in would be my guess. At least thaty is what Mark told me when we were chatting about a similar impedance bump in the EL70.

no whizzer to get damaged, that's a plus in the 7-8" category
The +5db above 5khz on the (very) smoothed graph wouldn't bother my older ears.
Looks very interesting for those needing a larger driver...................

Darn it, I'm like this close to buy a pair of dynaudio excite x32 speakers....................

The SD is >2x of the Alpair 10 drivers; I am expecting that in a well designed cabinet this driver will deliver low frequency output that will be satisfactory to a large part of the wide-band single driver enthusiast community. The increased SD hopefully will give a greater perception of "slam" that can be more limited with drivers with smaller cone are.
The peaks above 5KHz - it would be interesting to hear from early adopters how it sounds a little off-axis, or if a notch filter helps.

Zia,
As i understand ir...
Meant for multitasking i believe … MooTi with that 5th Element accent ... is intended to be either a woofer or a wideband.

That flat impedance should make for an easy 6db crossover, or even baffle step also.
Seems a pricey option for a 2 way….
Then again, just cause it seems to measure all the way up there, may not mean it sounds good trying to do up there…….
