For a desktop version I think the following layout/configuration makes sense simply from a usability point of view:

Front panel:

Volume
Power on/off
Output(s)
LED

Back panel:

Input(s)
Gain switch
Power in ("12VAC")

The gain switch could go on the front too, but I think it would be used infrequently in this application.

Well, I'm not far off.. except I left the 3.5 mm input connector and the gain switch on the front.

I’m still waiting on the pricing quote. I have submitted the design to a company in china, and I’m waiting on a pricing quote.

With the previous quote, with them it was like 8 bucks with manufacturing the box and the front panel. We would need a minimum of 500 orders. Even if you weren't interested in the front panel, the fact that we could get both together for less than buying the box here in the us, might make better sense.

I still need a few days while I obtain the pricing quote from them, though.

I'll be honest and say I have a couple of issues with the group panel as I know it now.
Instead of having the line run under the volume knob, break the line there and add a - and + on either side. I think that would top off a great professional look.
Secondly, I have reservations about marking the ps input "12VAC". I think it should be marked 15VAC. I see this more in line with NwAvGuy's stated specifications and performance. A true 12VAC input will not work correctly.

The same thing with the design and the line. I would assume I'll just order something a bit later myself when I'm happy with my own design - whether it costs more or not. Or better yet - DI mYself... I personally feel that the only required things are the e.g. "diyAudio- Objective2" logo (and the 15VAC text that I can stick in the back) - and just maybe some simple indicators for "source" and "business end". I'll just put a bright colored washer for the Power switch. I think I can manage with the volume knob being a hint of what it is for without a label. If I were to label it - I would even label LED as LED for consistency...

I'll thus probably just skip the front panel GB.

A lot of people have bought cases trough the GB for parts, myself included. I'd only need the panel, but if people want the whole thing, I'd tag along. An extra case can't hurt.

So, when a design and source is decided on, open a GB with the details and I'll tag along. I'd still pick anything machined over my work 🙂

- [15VAC] is oke with me
- i only need a frontpanel
- i dont like the -/+ idea,
- * it doesnt really add to understandanding of it's funcionality
- * it fixes volumeknobsize

layout as it is, is pretty functional and sober, no jokes,
i think many of us can live with this frontpaneldesign

proposal for next step :
1. finish layout (change text inputvoltage from 12VAC to 15VAC)
2. investigate price, depending on amount of orders (i guess around 50)
3. start new groupbuythread without any open questions
