Parasound halo integrated

A few months ago I took advantage of an authorized dealer (checked with parasound) Hint clearance sale when the Hint 6 came out.....got it nib for $1500

I’ve been putting together a new system for the house that the wife and I have been building and just now getting around to properly hooking it up......question is how long will it take for this to ‘burn in’ as they say?

The reason I ask is it started out sounding rather unimpressive (that’s being nice)

It’s come into its own a little in the past 8hrs or so but still isn’t whoopin up on my Yamaha RN803 like I expected (directly replaced it) in fact I’ve really gotta try hard to be impressed.

There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with it and if I didn’t have the yammie to compare with it I’d probably say it was great....but either that Yamaha is bad *** or the hint isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.......hoping maybe it just needs a longer break in?

If it's new, a month or so of playing should do it. Mainly it's the electrolytic capacitors
reforming. They could have been around a year or more before being installed in the amp.
And then how long was the amp in inventory? Give it some time.

10-4......kinda figured it would take a little while to get up to full stride but it started out limpin pretty bad!

Like you said it’s manufacture date is probably 5 years ago or so.

It’s Lacking depth and punch .....bass is ‘rubbery’ for lack of better term!

Thanks,

Bob

Do you use the phono stage?

No....but it’s the same digital or analog input, I’ve been playing around with source level and been tweaking.

It’s just kindly a flat beer thing going on......is that the price one pays for smooth sound? It is smoother for sure just lacking focus, presence, attack and all the things I liked about the Yamaha.....But the Yamaha wasn’t exactly smooth!

If I had to compare in a vehicle sense the yammie is a Chevy LT-1 350 and Hint is a 400 Pontiac.

Do you have one?

Most of the amplifiers these days are directly coupled, no capacitor in signal path. They should not need any long burn in.
Something else is wrong.

Like I said nothing seems ‘wrong’ .....it behaves as it should, I was just hoping it’s sonic character was going to improve.

There’s plenty to like about it (especially at lower levels) it’s got an open (broad) airy sound, with a beautiful midrange.

However..... The openness is lacking focus, depth, and just won’t rev like the yammie. There’s nothing wrong with a Pontiac 400 just expected a little more ‘kick’ from the famous Hint...... it is pleasant though!

Sounds like you may be suffering from a case of audio nervosa. After living with a Yamaha for a while, you've gotten used to its colorations which the Parasound doesn't have. Also, you don't say anything about the rest of your components. Any issues you may have with the Parasound might be attributed to other equipment in your system.

Had to look that one up and is apparently a real thing! lol

‘One who’s constantly trying to fix the sound’

Yes.....well what’s the fun if your not constantly trying to better your sound?

I can’t afford the ‘top end’ stuff that produces the ghost of muddy waters on demand so i’ve Gotta work within my means....and this Hint was a stretch financially so maybe my expectations were a little higher than reality?
And as much as I’d like to build an amp I really doubt I could do any better than JC !

Your right it is ‘color’ free and I could live with that if it didn’t seem a little constipated.

As far as the rest of the components i’m assuming their not the issue because they were not a limiting factor for the ‘inferior’ Yamaha.

My Elac server/streamer allows for output adjustment both analog and digital.....i did add a little more gain which seemed to kick it up a notch.

It really does seem to be blooming the more it plays.

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying the colorations inherent in your Yamaha somehow made it inferior to the Parasound. The Parasound also has colorations, but they're different. Give it more time for you and your amp to adjust to each other.

Got ya.....well it is about as color free as I could imagine it should be.

And just to clarify on my end, it’s nowhere as focused as it should be, soft edges.....it’s right close though.

I was getting waaay more focus with the yammie......low,loud or in between.....that’s what rules out the rest of the gear for me.

I’m not saying it sounds bad just not quite up to expectation......I was hoping someone (or several) was gonna say oh yah....my new Hint was a little dull at first and then cleared up after x hours.

I got rayma holding the faith for me!

So according to you dick, this is as good as it’s gonna get and I will get used to it?
Cuz.....the only thing that’s gonna get me used to it is if it starts to sound better.
