Do you guys believe me when I say the LP sounds better than digital on my system? Even with a cheap Technics SL-D2 and $50 BBE phono pre? Is this possible? The drums sound particularly better and the music just makes a "happy alive" sound. I can't really describe it. Maybe because it has such great dynamic range?
What's a better way to playback a recording of an lp? digital 24/96 or recorded on a good hi-fi VHS cassette?

How does the SL-D2 compare to the SL-1200 what were the differences? I wonder if the SL-D2 can be modded? Right now there is a very faint hum though even when the table isn't spinning.

I am a mostly vinyl listener. Iam increasingly listening to digital though. Slowly I have come to recognize that digital is more detailed and has better bass. It depends on the recording. I have cds that sound better than the vinyl version I have and vice versa. Digital is in general more forward sounding to me though.

Yes, of course!
Because it does. 😎
Even with my cheap Technics SL-D2? LOL. Btw, I have the record playing sitting directly on the wooden cabinet shelf. Should I be using a mat or puttipng sponges or foam or cork or somethign underneath the feet? Would that improve the sound?
I don't know what I'm doing lol.. I just cut four 4 inch or so squares from harbor freight neoprene workbench mat and placed a square under each foot. I don't know if it is wishful thinking or not but I am thinking it sounds better hrm lol.. I need to A/B it several times.
Of course, for best noise performance, don't stack the enclosures! Get the transformer ~1M from the RIAA boards.
I am building this pre-amp now and am feeling like getting lazy and fitting the PSU in the same 2U case as the RIAA boards (maybe with some metal between them). How bad of an idea is this to do?
i have la scala's which are super efficient and tend to show off any noise upstream which is part of why i am replacing those components with low noise versions. I guess i have my answer
thanks, yes. currently running them on the ACA and they sound really great. also a B1 in the chain cut out most of the rest of the noise. on wards to the turntable!
