Hi I recently bought an sx 727 off ebay. Its a bit of a dog and needs a bit of TLC!
The deffinate problems are as follows
A few bulbs are out ( i can get the bulbs and fit them fine)
The signal meter isnt working at all
The signal strength meter was working the first time i tried it, but then i couldnt get any singal on the amp all thother an hour later!
The left channel has popping and crackling which is getting louder! assuming this could be the caps? it started off non existant during the hour i had it on, then got louder and louder.
all the pots seem dodgy too, just some cleaner would benefit these!
What would anyone recomend I should do as a bare minimum?
Thanks!

Find a manual - check voltages on power supply. Change the little white sanyo electrolytics in the tone controls and other places. Clean it. You may want to change some of the electrolytics - especially if they look "bloated" overheated (plastic sheathing shrunk) or leaky. Static is usually caused by bad silicon not bad caps, but can be cracked or broken solder connections or even cracked components. Look for flaky transistors - especially input transistors and first gain transistors in amplifier circuits. Can probably find more info on repairs at audiokarma.org - they have a separate pioneer forum. Good luck with it.
