I have already designed a regulator with LT1763 . What the reason for the LT3080 ?

Me too. I already have another miniVreg using the LT1763.

The LT3080 is may be a more noisy but have many advantages:

- better packaging (SOT223, TO220)
- better heat handling (better efficiency)
- only one resistor
- start from 0v
- better line regulation and accuracy
- larger input voltage and current range
- better ripple rejection
- designed to be used in parallel

If you use 2 LT3080 in line, you can produce a very low noise reg with an high pssr with a minimum of component.

The basic idea with the miniVreg series is to produce a very simple circuit/pcb easy to mount, solder and to use, and at low price. The circuit can be optimized changing some of the passive component.
