Pro vs hifi drivers - pros and cons?

anyway my point was that if jbl uses this configuration for hi-fi they have o good reason to do that. Large ugly speakers + horn + HFhorn on top. It's more similar to a proaudio setup with a cherry on top rather than a hi-fi one.
Now putting the jokes aside, has anyone here tried to build something similar to the everests?

I would like to build someting like this one, some day

Yeah, half a century of speaker and driver design and manufacture and some very talented engineering staff.

Large, yes, ugly is only opinion and if you think that these won't perform more than adequately for their cost, then that is just your ignorance showing.

Sure, I have built several. My current builds contain mostly pro audio drivers seconded for use at home including JBL LF drivers and waveguides.

I have been going through the process of improving a pair of JBL HLS810's. At first, I decided to pick up a pair of Pyle Pro pds442 compression drivers and compatible horns. Then, left with the horrible fact that the stock 8" woofers were woefully inefficient and lifeless, I decided to take a risk.

A couple days ago, I ordered in some Celestion TF 0818's. I've heard good things about Celestion, however there are few reviews of the 0818's. Their sensitivity (94 db), response curve, and the fact that they are designed for a 2-way system with a small cabinet seems to make them well-suited for my speakers. I'm using a subwoofer that's crossed at around 100hz, so I'm hoping that this system will interface well.

LF Pressed Chassis / Ferrite - TF0818 - Celestion - Guitar, Bass & Pro Audio Speakers

I'm just hoping that a 2000hz crossover won't kill the magic! I'm intrigued as to how they will sound, so I will keep you guys posted! For $38 with free shipping, I couldn't find a better deal.

I think you'll find that using a midrange driver in that cab will mean you get... lots of midrange! The inefficiency comes from trying to get bass out of a small cab, not from the driver itself. Nevertheless, good luck in your experiment.

Badman, midrange was exactly what my cabinets were missing before! I'm not too worried about the <100hz range because I have a Paradigm subwoofer that is handling that portion of the audio. If these can reach down to around 75hz, that should work well enough. The stock drivers were cheap polypropylene units that could hardly reach 1500hz, let alone 2000hz.

Thanks!

Hey, I got my Celestion's installed and they definitely sound better than the original woofers. Overall, the sound is far more transparent. The only negative is that they are a bit lacking in bass, although my subwoofer makes up for that quite a bit. Overall, I'd give these pro drivers an A, considering I expected them to perform this way. And man, can they play LOUDLY (and cleanly) when combined with compression driver loaded horns!!

Can not decide

Hı. I want to make a 3 way system but i could not decide which drivers to use.As you can see it in The picture of my subwoofer i think I should make active crossover @ 110 Hz .
I searched 20cm fullrange drivers and 20cm pro drivers as midbass driver. They both have almost same sensitivity. I will use F5 amplifiers to drive them
Hifi fullrange drivers have lighter cones have smaller magnets and smaller voice coil and smaller inductance, pro drivers have bigger. If they have same sensitivity, which one is more suitable to drive with F5 amp ? I can use 20cm B&C midbass and de250 Hf driver.(I can reach easily in my country)
Or Fostex Fe206en and a hifi tweeter from Usa
Which one can give lower distortion ?Has anybody measured and compared them at 1w and 5w ?
(Poor Picture is a measurement in my room at my listening position. 4 meter far from subwoofer and measured by ipad air microphone.Subwoofer is in Thé corner of the room and in front of me .My sitting room is about 25 sq meter)
